NGUYEN THI KIM THOA

The graph illustrates how much the US government spending spent on research
including health, space, energy, general science and others over a 28-year period from
1980 to 2008.

Overall, while all the categories increased, health was the most heavily
expenditure field and energy was the least.

Overall, the amount of money spent on all categories increased. Also, while people
spent most money on health, the opposite was true for field and energy.

In 1980, the figure for health and energy was 8 and 2.5 billion dollars,
respectively. In the next 4 years, there was a slight decrease to 6 billion before rose
rising significantly to 21 billion dollars over a period of 20 years and reached a peak
for health. But in the last 4 years, there was a moderate drop to below 20 billion. The
number of energy stood at 2.5 billion in 12 years, then grew to 6 billion dollars in
2008.

Of the other categories, Space and Other fields both fluctuated between 5 and 7
billion over the first 16 years. While the figure for space increased significantly to
under 10 billion dollars in 2004 and was unchanged in the last 4 years, that for others
increased to 8 billion in 2002 and decreased back to 7 billion to by the end of the
period.
