Performance-Based Task

in
Basic Calculus Grade 11

I. Performance Standard
The learners investigate, analyze, and solve optimization problems, related rates problems, and
tangent and normal line at a given point on a curve.

II. Objectives
The learners will be able to …
1. accurately illustrate optimization problems, related rates problems, and tangent and normal line;
2. derive equations from optimization problems, related rates problems, and tangent and normal line;
2. solve accurately real-world problems involving derivative of a function;
3. create an output that shows both neatness and accuracy; and
4. work collaboratively within a group.

III. Performance Task

A. Solve following problems. Provide a complete procedure on how you achieve your solution.
A. OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS
1. A box in the shape of cuboid with a square base is to be made so that the sum of its dimensions
(l+b+ h) is 20 cm. Find its maximum volume.
2. The sum of 2 numbers is 15. Find theses of their product is a maximum.
B. RELATED RATES PROBLEMS
1. Sand is poured into a heap at a constant rate of 4 cm 3/min so that the heap is in the shape of a
right circular cone whose height is always equal to the radius of the base. When the heap is 10 cm
High, how fast is the height increasing?
2. A straight railway track and a straight road intersect at right angles. At a given instant a car
traveling at 40 km/h and a train traveling at 50 km/h are moving away from the intersection and
are 40 km and 30 km from the intersection, respectively. The car and train continue moving in
straight lines without changing their speed. One hour later, at what rate is the distance between
the car and the train changing?
C. TANGENT LINE AND NORMAL LINE
8
1. Find the equation of the tangent and normal line to the curve y= at (4, 2).
√ 3 x+ 4
B. Content
1. Cover Page: (See Sample)
a. Title of the output: Optimization Problems, Related Rates Problems, and Tangent and Normal Line
b. Names: e.g., Juan M. Dela Cruz
c. The Institutional Affiliation: Senior High School Department, King’s College of the Philippines
d. Course Title: General Mathematics
e. Name of Teacher
f. Date of Submission
2. Pagination and Table of Contents
Cover Page is counted as page i, but the paging is visible on the page.
Table of Contents is counted as page ii.
Table of Contents starts with the first problem which is page number 1.
3. Word problems and complete step – by – step procedures
4. Include necessary figures, charts, and graphs
C. General Instructions
1. Use long bond (8.5” by 13”) paper
2. Encoded: use Tahoma 11
3. One page per item
4. Compile in a clear front folder
5. Put 1-inch margin at all sides
6. Submission will be on or before May 09, 2023
