From the above, it is observed that:

1) Large no. of AT welds (471 no. welds i.e. 2.68% of total welds) done by departmental
welders were removed before initial testing.
2) Large no. of AT welds (136 no. welds i.e 3.69% of total welds) done by agency welders
were removed before initial testing.
3) Defective welds %age is high in departmental welding (including AT welds removed
before initial testing) of UMB division (9.75%), DLI division (3.03%) & FZR division
(2.90%).
4) Defective weld %age is high in agency welding (excluding AT welds removed before
initial testing) of MB division (1.62%).
5) Defective welds %age is high in agency welding (including AT welds removed before
initial testing) of DLI division (7.81%), LKO division (7.89%), FZR division (7.52%)
and UMB division (6.94%).
6) For departmental executed 177 no. welds, initial testing of new AT welds not done
within stipulated 30 days (data from 1.1.2024 to 24.4.2024).
7) For agency executed 133 no. welds, initial testing of new AT welds not done within
stipulated 30 days (data from 1.1.2024 to 24.4.2024).
8) Welder wise defective %age of AT welding is high for some of the welders division wise
as under:

Divisions are advised to take necessary action as follows:

1) Timely USFD testing of new AT welds must be done.
2) Welds removed before initial testing may be avoided. A report of such welds with
reasons should be submitted to this office every month.
3) Welders having defective percentage >2% may be sent for refresher course at
TPP/LKO.
4) Continuous monitoring of all welders for their performance as well as proper training
should be done to improve quality of welding.
5) Full complement of standard equipments for AT welding should be ensured with each
welding unit of the division.

Action taken by divisions in this regard may be advised to this office at the earliest.
