1. Always wear a laboratory coat or apron before entering
the lab for protecting clothes from contamination. 2. Before and after each practical, clean your work bench with 90% ethanol. 3. Keep your laboratory bench clean of everything (paper ,papers etc ) 4. Never smoke, eat or drink in the laboratory. 5. Never place pencil, labels or any other material in your mouth. 6. If a culture is spilled, cover the area with disinfectant such as mercuric chloride for 15 min. 7. In the event of personal injury such as cut or burn inform your instructor immediately as bacteria loves open wounds. 8. Be careful of laboratory burners and turn off when not in use. 9. All microbial cultures should b handled as being potentially pathogenic. 10.The waste papers and contaminated glass wares should be kept in proper place. 11.Wash your hands with soap and water before and after finishing your work in laboratory. 12.Aseptic techniques must be practiced all the time. 13.Always keep culture tubes in upright position in a rack.Label all the plates, tubes and cultures properly. 14.Materials such as stains and reagents, petriplates andpipettes must be returned to the original location. 15.Always clean microscope stage, eye piece, lenses and objectives before and after use. All lenses must be wiped with lens paper. 16.Keep your laboratory note book up to date.
