SCHOOLS DIVISION OF ISABELA
CALLANG NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
San Manuel

Abstract:
The educational initiative at Callang National High School aimed to enrich
Grade 12 learners' educational experience by replacing the traditional quarterly
examination with a project focused on traditional Filipino recreational activities. Led
by dedicated P.E. subject teachers, Rex C. Delos Reyes and Emilia S. Malana, the
project aimed to immerse students in the cultural heritage of the Philippines while
fostering practical skills and critical thinking.
By selecting, modifying, and facilitating traditional games, students not only
learned the mechanics of these activities but also gained a deeper understanding of
their cultural significance. This hands-on approach allowed students to apply
theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, promoting active participation,
collaboration, and reflection.
The decision to forgo the quarterly exam in favor of this project was driven by
a belief in the project-based learning approach's ability to provide a more holistic
educational experience. Instead of memorizing facts, students demonstrated mastery
through engagement with Filipino culture, critical analysis, and practical application
of skills.
The project facilitated the development of essential skills for the future,
including cultural appreciation, teamwork, and problem-solving. It served as a
testament to the school's commitment to innovative educational practices that
prioritize meaningful learning experiences over traditional assessment methods.
Through this initiative, students not only honed their academic skills but also
cultivated a deeper connection to their cultural heritage.
