1 Table of validity
The following table describes the software and hardware versions on which this manual was based.
2 Specifications
Electrical

Pressure tested at 9 bar during the standard factory test. This will ensure that no leaks are present.
2 Ifthe specification of the alarm point 5ppm is specified, the maximum overboard oil content will be 5ppm.
3 Up to 60 ºC if the piping inside the unit cabinet is isolated.
3 Overview
MasterTrack 588® is a bilge discharge monitor offering extra protection against excessive oil discharge from
ships. The 15 ppm 1 bilge alarm, BilgMon 488®, the overboard valve (OBV) and the communication unit, which
logs all important data both electronically and on paper (option), are all enclosed in a locked cabinet.
MasterTrack 588® is delivered with 2 high security keys.
Figure 1 and Figure 2 shows the different parts of the system and Figure 3 shows a state diagram, which depicts
the operation of MasterTrack 588®.

1) Set Door Alarm to off through the settings screen (see chapter 5.6.4 Settings – Door, page 23) so you
can run the system with the door open.
2) Close the Restriction Valve completely. This will force all water to go via the sample loop and ensure
that no air is trapped in the sample loop.
3) Activate the system. The Separator pump should start so that water is flowing and one of the Discharge
inputs goes active. Check that the LED on the Flow Switch is green (flow detected).
4) Open the Restriction Valve completely. Check that the LED on the Flow Switch is red (no flow
detected).
5) Slowly close the Restriction Valve until the LED on the Flow Switch goes green. Close the Restriction
Valve about one full turn extra compared to the point where the Flow Switch just turned green.
6) Turn the Separator pump (the discharge inputs) on and off a few times in order to ensure that, the
whole system is working properly.
1) Apply the delivered cable tie as shown in the picture. Tighten the cable tie completely. Cut of the
excess end.

5.1.2 Keys
All keys, if not greyed, can be pressed. The function of a key is explained by text above or in the key.
Different actions and feedback is taken by the computer depending on which key that is pressed. The key can
change the displayed page, open a submenu, open a drop down list or simply change colour to yellow as an
indication of activation.
Figure 8. Example showing a button that can be pressed to toggle between YES and NO.
5.1.3 Password
Some operations require a password. Enter the password and select "Admin" for administrator level or "User"
for lower user level.
Run Mode
This shows where in Overboard
the state diagram, Valve State
page 8, the system is.
Run Mode:
Standby. Ready for start if a discharge input goes active.
Alarm status:
At least one alarm is active. Flashing between red and black. The
buzzer is sounding. The alarm relay is open circuit. The alarm relay
is also open circuit when MasterTrack 588® is powered off.
All active alarms have been reset. The buzzer is off. The alarm relay
is closed circuit.
Edit the time by pressing , use and to change a number. Goto next digit with .
1 It is recommended to use in UTC time because the internal log time is offset for each change to local time, and it may be
difficult to match with the oil record book.
1 If the specification of the alarm point 5ppm is specified, the maximum overboard oil content will be 5ppm.
Set GPS to off through the settings screen, see chapter 5.6.3 Settings – GPS, page 23, if you want to run the
system without a GPS.
If this alarm occurred after installing a new BilgMon 488® unit, make sure it has a serial output (the bottom PCB
inside BilgMon 488 should be marked BILGBASMD in the lower left corner) and that “Curro mode” is set to
“serial 4800 8N1” (Settings -> Curro mode, see instruction manual for BilgMon 488®).
This Alarm can occur if air is trapped in the BilgMon 488® sensor. See chapter 7.3 How to remove trapped air in
BilgMon 488®, page 33.
Please review all settings (some may be corrupted), see chapter 5.6 Settings Page 22. When all settings have
been reviewed, please edit and save at least one setting. This will force the computer to re-write all settings in the
memory and the alarm will be cleared if the problem was resolved.
All important events are logged and can be viewed from the page Recorded data. Recorded data is stored in a
non-volatile memory and can hold approximately 3.000.000 events. Optionally a paper printer can also be
installed in the computer unit, see chapter 5.7 Paper Printer (optional), page 28. The paper printer prints the
same information as stored in Recorded Data.
Table 2 on the next page explains all events that are logged in the Recorded Data and printed on the paper.
Recorded data can be copied to a USB-memory stick. See chapter 5.8 Saving data on a USB stick, page 29.

A very simple password is required in order to enter the Advanced menu. The password is 2.
Most events are printed on two lines. The first line contains line number, UTC time and local time in brackets.
The second line (below the first) shows the actual event (for example /Alarm – Door Open). All the possible
events are shown in Table 2, page 21.

closing the door to the cabinet.
The recorded data and/or the settings can be copied to a USB memory stick. Use a USB stick with a Windows
FAT32 file system (most sticks are preformatted with FAT32).

6 Maintenance
Certain checks and servicing should be carried out at regular intervals in order to minimize the risk for
unexpected malfunctions during operation.
7 Troubleshooting
7.1 Resolving Alarms
Chapter 5.4 Active Alarms page 17 explains the causes of alarms and how to resolve them.
1) Set Door Alarm to off through the settings screen (see 5.6.4 Settings – Door, page 23) so you can run
the system with the door open.
2) Activate the system. The Separator pump should start so that water is flowing and one of the Discharge
inputs goes active.
3) Remove the trapped air by quickly opening the BilgMon 488® drain valve and then close it again. Note:
Water will exit trough the drain below the MasterTrack 588®.
4) You can also release air by opening the top cover of the BilgMon 488® sensor. Open by unscrewing the
top cover a few turns.

Flow switch

Green LED: flow
5) Repeat step 3) and 4) until all air has been released and the flow switch steadily indicates flow (LED on
flow switch is green).
6) Press Reset Alarms if necessary and check that the system is working correctly.
7) Change back Door Alarm to on through the settings screen (see 5.6.4 Settings – Door, page 23).
Make sure that the output pipes are routed correctly, see chapter 4.1 Outlets must be installed with backpressure,
page 9. If the pipes are routed incorrectly air might keep getting trapped in the sample loop.
7.4 Fuses
Check that all fuses are ok if the unit is not working as expected. F1-F3 and F11-F13 should all be 1A (slow
burn) fuses. F14-F16 are not used.

10 Onboard Test
Follow the test steps below in order to check that MasterTrack 588® functions correctly.
Note that this test requires that the external re-circulation facilities (3-way valve for testing) is in the test
position to allow running the OWS and testing the automatic stopping device (overboard valve) inside the
MasterTrack 588® without any water actually being discharge over board. Onboard test for the bilge alarm is
referred to INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR BILGE ALARM OF MASTER TRACK 588.
Table 3. Test steps in order to check that MasterTrack 588® functions correctly.
1 If the specification of the alarm point 5ppm is specified, the maximum overboard oil content will be 5ppm.
1) Battery type

Normal voltage 3V
Normal capacity 50mAh
*: There is no problem even when using which one.
Back up battery
3) Replacement procedure
a) Open the lid of Communication Unit.
b) Pull the battery out of the metal bracket.
c) Replace with new battery (type CR1225 or BR1225) as soon as possible.
NOTE:
Since memory and date/time registered in computer is backed up by coin type battery on PCB in the
Communication Unit, memory and date/time is not eliminated even if AC power supply to the Communication
Unit is cut off.
