1.0 Power and connections
Power is supplied to the Gas Purge Monitor via a mains power adapter and connects to the
XLR socket labelled ‘12Vdc’.

NB: For units with remote sensor boxes and flow control units, see Annexe 1.

Press the button labelled ‘Power’ to turn on. The screen will display the serial number and
software version, before a sensor heating 60 second countdown. Once the counter has
finished and the O2 sensor is ready, the Gas Purge Monitor can be operated.

Connect the sniffer tube provided to the ‘Gas In’ quick-fit connection via the optional filter if
required. If fitted, connect one end of the alarm beacon cable to the ‘Beacon’ connection and
the other end of the cable to the optional alarm beacon unit.

2.0 Alarm beacon (optional)
The alarm beacon has a red, yellow and green light which displays the programmable state of
the O2 levels. The beacon also has a buzzer which can be configured with the switches on
the side of the alarm beacon.

Moving the green switch to the down position will cause the buzzer to sound when the light
turns green. With the red switch down it will sound when the light turns red. If both switches
are in the down position, the buzzer will sound if the light goes green or red. If both switches
are in the off position, the buzzer will not sound.

3.0 Screens

3.1 Main display

Pressing the ‘Start’ or ‘Stop’ buttons will start and stop the testing.

Pressing the ‘Print rate’ buttons will change between print rate 1 and print rate 2 which are
programmable in setup mode.

At the bottom of the screen the time and the percentage of space left on the USB pen drive.

3.2 Setup

Press the ‘Setup’ button on the main screen to enter setup mode. From here the options and
configuration of the Gas Purge Monitor can be altered by pressing the relevant button.

3.2.1 Date and time

Press the relevant button to select day, month, year, hours, minutes or seconds. Use the ‘Up’
and ‘Down’ buttons to decrease or increase this value. The button pressed will be highlighted
and must be deselected before any other values can edited or the back button can be pressed.

3.2.2 Limits

Pressing either the ‘Oxygen high’ or ‘Oxygen low’ changes the level limits for the alarm
beacon. The large value is displayed in percent with the PPM value displayed smaller
underneath.

A reading above Level 1 will cause the beacon to turn red, below Level 2 the beacon will turn
green. In between these values the beacon will turn yellow.

3.2.3 Print rate

Pressing the ‘Print rate’ sets the two print rates These can be cycled through on the main
screen by pressing ‘Print rate’. The default is 1 second or 20 seconds.

3.2.4 Proportional output (optional)

Pressing the ‘Prop O/P’ button on the setup page enables configuration of the 0 - 5 volt output
from the O2 O/P connection on the side of the GPM.

3.2.5 Set Oxygen %


Pressing the ‘Set oxygen %’ button will switch between % and PPM being displayed on the
screen.

3.2.6 Dwell

Pressing the ‘Dwell’ button on the setup page enables the configuration of the time between
switching the beacon to a GREEN state and from a GREEN state. This prevents the lights
changing too often when it is only a brief excursion out of the limits set.

4.0 Software

4.1 View files

To view the text files stored on the USB pen drive click the ‘View files

Directories are automatically created using the file format of year, month, day. Use the ‘Up’
and ‘Down’ buttons to select which directory to view and then click the ‘Select Dir’ button.

Once the directory has been selected, select the text file to view and click the ‘Display file’
.
Insert the USB pen drive into a computer and open Excel. Click ‘Open file’ in Excel and select
the TVC_MAL_USB from ‘My Computer’. Select ‘View all files’ so text files are displayed.

Click ‘Open’ on the required file. The import screen will appear, click ‘Next’ on this screen.

On the next screen, select the SPACE option and click next. In the resulting screen, click
‘Finish’ to import the data to Excel.

Annexe 1 Remote sensor boxes and / or flow control units only (optional)

A.1
The remote sensor box and / or flow control unit connections must be made before connection
to the power supply. Remote sensor box connection cable must be connected to the 10-way
connector as shown below.

The sniffer tube is to be connected to the gas input on the remote sensor box as shown below.

Position the remote sensor as close to the purge area exhaust point as is practical. This keeps
the sniffer tube as short as possible allowing for any change in purge conditions to be detected
in the shortest possible time.

Connect the gas supply to the flow control unit. Gas flow MUST be connected to the correct
gas connection for input and output.

Press the ‘Start Button’ on the GPM unit. Set the required low, medium and high gas flow rates
using the manual switches and adjustment controls on the valves in the flow control unit and
measuring the gas flow at the output hose connection.

Observe the following:

Red High flow

Yellow Medium flow

Green Low flow

Once the gas flow rates have been set, stop the GPM and switch all manual valve switches to
the’On’ position. Close the flow control unit lid and lock with the key provided.
