TITLE
Name: Mutua martin nzuki
Centre code: 408114
Index no: 408114
Paper code: 1601\06B
Exam series: JUNE\JULY
Presented to Kenya national examination council for a award of craft
certificate in electrical and electronics

ABSTRACT
The report is about a proposed project for traning centre located at
Nairobi
The climate condition of the location is 30 degrees celcious the design
of the institution data information was from the interest with
independent electrical engineering regulations the salts the instution
design work
Drawing one shows the lighting scheme of the whole clockwise
arrangement of the switches from each circuit
Drawing two shows the socket outlet wire figure 3 is about conduit
layout it shows the point of conduit and numbers
Drawing four it is a distribution layout showing the power in for
every modern ease circuit breaker collection factor has been designed
to be of unit of world for the tables of collection factor
The plan contains of four to five number of distribution board are
distributed at a effective point at the institution
As among of safety measures of international electrical engineering
regulations the control parallel was installed
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This project is about a selected technical instution located in
Machakos. This hall shall be of a flat roof painted white and toilets
with black sheet
1.1 OBJECTIVES
The main reason of the project is to calculate the electrical desing of
the hall which involve the following:
 Knowing out the total number of lamps per room and show one
another of internal and external layout and the switch positions
 Drawing overlay indicating suitable locations of sockets ,
distribution boards , labling, isolators and other control positions
 Calculating out the cable size and conduits size and draw an
overlay to indicate suitable wiring system of conduits cables
size number in every run
 Working out the cable size for major supply showing main
cables and main switch
1.2 SIGNIFICANCES OF THE STUDY
The major importance of this project is to manipulate the knowledge
in electrical and electronic installation
Hence better knowledge and understanding of the installation of a
plan of electrical design
1.3 THE SCOPE
The knowledge access how simple electrical design has been worked
in the hall
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.0DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PLAN
The electrical installation design is aimed on the architectural plan
and for it will vary as the architectural plan values
2.1 DESCRIPTION OF UNIQUE OF THIS DESIGN
This is the selected technical training institution and the purpose of
this installation will include lighting and specialized equipment’s used
in the installation
CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
3.0 NATURE OF ACTIVITY
Automatically activity is design which include calculating of all
working needed, drawings of overlays of all design work

3.1 PREPARATION OF DRAWING

This job include searching of archetural plan on the traced
architectural plan the design work is implemented to the following
Figure 1: lighting
Figure 2:distribution layout
Figure 3: socket outlet
Figure 4: conduct sytem
On every figure calculations are taken the light and machines are
drawn according to their scale

3.2 STEPS FOLLOWED

Aiming all the factors affecting the installation work with idea with
the data .The international electrical engineering and any other
required data reference required work out the following
Work out the following
I. The number of lighting
II. Work out the index
The floor and wall reflectance graph, get the correct reflectance value
to work out the utilization tables following the selected view of lamp
arrangement look for the uncorrected clear from uncorrected clear
from the uncorrected clear index table
Calculate the number of lamps

SOCKET OUTLETS
From the lighting scheme overlay drawn, draw another overlay with
the same positioning of distribution boards
To the other overlay draw the machines and equipments scale
show suitable socket point for a circuit

From the 1and2 draw another overlay show another overlay showing
the conduit job of both lighting and socket
CABLE SIZE
Do the supply maximum permissible voltage drop that is 4 % of
supply voltage drop
Finding the correction
Work out the load current
From the worked load current choose suitable protective current
device
Work out current through the conductor IEE regulation table 4C1find
the correction factor for grouping ,from the table 4c1 find the
correction factor for temperature of thermoplastic conduit
Divide the fuse rating by product of correction factor to get the
current through the contactor .From IEE regulation table 4d1b get the
min point
Work out for the cable voltage drop by finding the product and the
length then converts the answer to volt
The cable voltage drop should be less or equal to maximum
permissible voltage of supply
WORK THE CONDUIT SIZE
For lighting the worked cable size is 1.5mm look for the conduit
factor from table 4.14 for a cable of a cross sectional area 1.5 count
the number of cable in the conduit from your design and multiply the
result by the table factor
Look for the conduit size corresponding to the cable factor worked
out
Draw another overlay showing distribution board with number of
light circuits socket circuit machine and equipment to get the fuse
rating number of ranks in the conduit ,cable size and type and the
conduit size ‘Also show the ratings of the mains supply cable sizes
,fuses ratings and insulators ratings
CHAPTER 4: FINDINGS &DATA ANALYSIS
4.0 FINDING
From the actual plan it was found that the technical training was to be
equipped with machine equipment which need power for consistent
operation
4.1 DATA ANALYSIS
The necessary data was collected from books and used where
applicable i.e.
I. Latest updated I.E.E regulations tables for
D1A,D1B,4C1&4B1.To check on cable rating, protect the
device rating correction factor and voltage drops
II. Interior lighting handbook to check for lighting requirement for
the whole institution
III. Up to data catalogue to select the findings and calculations of
utilization factor ,space ,height ratio
4.2 CONCLUSION
Based on the findings the design work was suitably done by providing
room for future expansion
4.3 RECCOMDATION
The technical training institute need to be installed with back-up
generator for use when there is black out for continuous operation
4.4 BIOGRAPHY
Up to date catalogues interior lighting handbook latest 4 updated
I.E.E regulation tables
