Dear Admission Committee,

I am Dr. Thet Naing Win, graduated from the University of Dental Medicine, Yangon,
Myanmar. From a young age, I have been fascinated by the intricate mechanics of living organisms
and the potential for technology to enhance human health. This curiosity, combined with my
academic background and clinical experience, has driven my passion for bioengineering. I am
eager to pursue a Master of Bioengineering to deepen my knowledge, contribute to cutting-edge
research, and ultimately develop innovative solutions that improve quality of life.

As a dental surgeon, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that advanced
biomedical technologies can have on patient care and outcomes. My experiences in the dental
field have ignited a deep interest in bioengineering, particularly in developing innovative
solutions to enhance medical treatments. With a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery and a strong
foundation in clinical practice, I am eager to pursue a Master of Bioengineering at King Fahd
University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) to further my expertise and contribute to
advancements in medical technology.

My journey into the healthcare field began with my undergraduate studies in Dental
Surgery at the University of Dental Medicine, Yangon. The rigorous curriculum provided me with
a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology, alongside the
technical skills required for dental practice. Courses such as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,
Prosthodontics, and Periodontics were particularly influential, allowing me to appreciate the
complexities of craniofacial biology and the potential for technological interventions in these
areas. In Orthodontics treatments, I witnessed a lot of complex processes like bone resorption
and reconstruction utilizing various kinds of biotechnology equipment such as bionators and
other appliances which made a beautiful outcome for patients and elevated quality of life.

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I actively engaged in clinical rotations, where I

treated a diverse array of patients with various dental and maxillofacial conditions. These
experiences sharpened my diagnostic and surgical skills and reinforced my commitment to
improving patient care. It was during these rotations that I developed an interest in
bioengineering, particularly in the areas of tissue engineering and biomaterials, as I recognized
the potential for these fields to revolutionize dental and medical treatments.

My clinical experiences motivated me to explore opportunities that intersected with

bioengineering. I conducted in a team clinical project on the development of biocompatible
dental implants, focusing on enhancing osseointegration and reducing inflammatory responses.
This project involved collaborating with a multidisciplinary clinician, where I gained valuable
experience in biomaterial synthesis, and in vitro testing. These experiences solidified my desire
to pursue a Master’s degree in Bioengineering, where I can further explore these areas and
contribute to the development of innovative medical solutions.
With a Master of Bioengineering from KFUPM, I aim to bridge the gap between clinical
practice and biomedical research. I am particularly interested in exploring the development of
advanced biomaterials and tissue engineering techniques for dental and maxillofacial
applications. My goal is to contribute to the creation of next-generation implants, treatments of
gingival recessions, prosthetics, biocompatible crowns with the best compressive and tensile
strength, and regenerative therapies that can significantly improve patient care and treatment
outcomes.

I am particularly interested in exploring the interface between nanotechnology and

bioengineering in orthodontics, as I believe this area holds immense potential for breakthroughs
in diagnostics and therapeutics. I am also passionate about fostering collaboration between
clinicians and bioengineers to accelerate the translation of research findings into clinical practice.
By leveraging my clinical background and bioengineering expertise, I aspire to work in academic
and industry settings where I can drive innovation and facilitate the adoption of new technologies
in healthcare.

In conclusion, my background as a dental surgeon, coupled with my clinical experience

and passion for bioengineering, uniquely positions me to excel in the Master of Bioengineering
program at KFUPM. I am excited about the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the
vibrant academic community at KFUPM, and I am committed to advancing the field of
bioengineering to improve healthcare outcomes. Thank you for considering my application. I look
forward to the opportunity to contribute to and grow within your esteemed program.

Sincerely,

Thet Naing Win
