AN OPINION ESSAY

Governments often create national parks to protect wildlife and encourage conservation.
Do you think governments are doing enough to protect animals in their natural habitat?
Do you think governments have to take more forceful action to protect animals? Write an
opinion essay.

PROTECTING WILDLIFE

Not only has the conversation of wildlife been a controversial topic in the last few decades, but it
has also led some collectives to voice criticism of the mainstream attitude. In this essay, I will
explain why it should be a crucial target for governments to protect animals in their natural
habitat due to the lack of biodiversity we are recently experiencing.

It has been hugely proven by endless scientists that if governments started investing more money
to protect wildlife, we would be protecting many species that are at risk of extinction.

Moreover, a recent experiment at the Vancouver Zoo has shown that moving animals away from
their natural habitats is less beneficial than we thought. Their levels of stress increase and their
mental health can be heavily damaged. As a consequence of a lack of movement and
socialisation, some of these animals suffer from severe depression. Indeed, if this experiment had
not taken place, these shocking results would not have been brought to light.

On the whole, it is clear to me that the solution is not to move animals away from their homes
but to protect their habitats. For that reason, our governments ought to invest larger amounts of
money to protect wildlife and encourage conservation.

WILDLIFE IS IN DANGER

It is universally acknowledged that wildlife is in danger. Nevertheless, some people might not be
concerned about the problem that entails the contamination of ecosystems. This brings us to the
question of whether or not our governments are doing enough to help animals and their habitats.

On the one hand, one of the most striking topics that arise from this issue is human activity.
There is no doubt that the way most people live is harming wildlife due to industrial activity,
deforestation or global warming, among others. To fight against these problems, many experts
claim that extreme measures have to be taken. John Smith, an ecologist at the University of
Barcelona, claims that if we do not start looking after the environment, humanity will not have a
future.

Taking everything into consideration, I strongly believe that governments should take more
responsibility to protect wildlife. After all, many people fail to realise how important taking care
of nature is.
