CUT TO:

1 EXT. ABANDONED PARKING LOT - NIGHT 1

DENG ADUT THIAK, a South Sudanese refugee in his early 20s,

sits in the driver's seat of his car, a beat-up old sedan.
The car is parked in the corner of the empty parking lot,
surrounded by other abandoned cars. DENG is tired and
dishevelled, with dark circles under his eyes. He looks
around nervously, checking his surroundings.

DENG
(to himself)
This isn't how I imagined my life
to be.

DENG leans back in his car seat and closes his eyes, trying
to rest.

Suddenly, a loud banging on the car window startles him. He

jumps up and sees a group of teenagers outside, laughing
and jeering at him. DENG rolls down the car window.

TEEN 1
(mockingly)
Hey, man, what are you doing here?
This isn't a parking lot for
homeless people!

DENG tries to ignore them and starts the car, but it won't
start. He tries again, but still nothing.

TEEN 2
(mockingly)
What's wrong with your car? You
need a jumpstart?

DENG looks at them, feeling embarrassed and helpless.

DENG
(defeated)
I don't have any money for a
mechanic.

TEEN 3
(sarcastic)
Well, maybe you should just live in
your car then!
2.

The teenagers laugh and walk away, leaving DENG alone in

the car. DENG takes a deep breath and looks around, feeling
trapped and hopeless. He takes out a small book from his
backpack and starts to read it by the dim light of the
car's interior.

CUT TO:

2 INT. CAR - MORNING 2

DENG wakes up to the sound of the cars passing by. He looks

at his watch and sees that it's already morning. He opens
the car door and steps out, stretching his legs. He looks
around and sees a small park nearby. He walks towards it
and sees a group of people playing soccer.

DENG watches them for a while, feeling a sense of longing

and nostalgia. He remembers playing soccer with his friends
back in South Sudan, before the war tore his life apart. He
takes a deep breath and approaches the players.

DENG
(shyly)
Can I play with you guys?

The players look at him skeptically, but one of them nods

and passes him the ball. DENG starts to play, feeling the
rush of adrenaline and joy. He runs, kicks, and scores a
goal, feeling alive and free.

CUT TO:

3 EXT. PARK - LATER 3

DENG sits on a bench, drinking water and catching his

breath. The players come over to him, smiling and patting
him on the back.

PLAYER 1
You're pretty good, man. Where did
you learn to play like that?

DENG
(smiling)
Back in South Sudan. I used to play
with my friends all the time.

PLAYER 2
(sympathetic)
What happened to your friends?
3.

DENG
(sadly)
They're all gone now, killed or
disappeared.

The players look at him with a mix of pity and admiration.

PLAYER 3
(respectful)
You're a survivor, man. You've been
through a lot.

DENG
(nodding)
Yeah, I'm still here and I'm not
giving up.

The players smile, feeling a sense of companionship with

DENG.

CUT TO:

4 EXT. ABANDONED PARKING LOT - DAY 4

DENG walks back to his car, feeling a sense of purpose and

determination. He opens the car door and looks inside,
feeling grateful for what he has.

DENG
(to himself)
This car might not be much, but
it's better than nothing. And I'm
still alive.

He starts the car, and this time it starts with a roar.

DENG smiles and drives off, feeling a sense of hope and
optimism.

FADE OUT.
