Introduction

Electrical symbols are used to simplify the drafting and to understand the
drawing, electrical symbols are standardized throughout the industry, the
addition of a line, dot, shading, letters, and numbers gives a specific meaning to
a symbol, in order to achieve the ability to interpret the drawings and their
related symbol meanings, we must learn the basic form of various symbols.
Electrical symbols are required to do the electrical drawing and without
the help of electrical symbols, we won’t be able to do the electrical drawing.
Electrical circuits are represented by electrical drawings, symbols and
number combinations are used to represent electrical circuits.
Electrical drawings can be used to convey information about a wide range
of details such as Electrical wiring, pneumatic or hydraulic layouts, location of
the equipment, and details of the equipment.

The schematic wiring diagram is a drawing that uses symbols and lines to
show how the parts of an electrical assembly or unit are connected. The
schematic diagram won’t show where the parts are exactly located. But it
explains how to make an electrical connection (Ashlin, 2020).

Electrical engineering students from Eastern Visayas State University

who went for their “on the job training” to gain experience in a working
environment with the importance of electrical symbols in their mind.
Communication happens through the use of these symbols when sketching
diagrams because each symbol represents a specific electrical component.
Understanding the meaning of each symbol allows you to comprehend how the
circuit operates and how the electricity flows through it.
Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of electrical symbols to the OJT
performance of electrical engineering students.

Particularly this study pled to answer the following questions ;

1.) Electrical engineering student's experience in their OJT

2.) How do electrical engineers use electrical symbols specifically in
communication and comprehension?
3.) Advice to upcoming electrical engineering student's that will start their
on job training.

Methodology
This part explains the types and sources of data as well as the method used by

the researchers in collecting and analysing the information collected.

The following discussions outline the short paper methods employed.

Generated a topic which is entitled the effectiveness of electrical symbols

to the OJT performance of electrical engineering students.

Conducting the study at Eastern Visayas States University, Electrical

Engineering Department ,Tacloban City

The participants of the study are selected 4th Electrical engineering

students with a good experience on their job training.

Research Instrument

Used unstructured interview for the chosen participants conducting the

study through interviewing, gathering every data that the participants will say.
Procedure

To have a deeper understanding at the study, seek for verified information and

read articles about the topic.

Selecting purposive sampling as a way of reaching a participant for the

study and descriptive evaluative design.

Descriptive evaluation studies describe the process and impact of the

development and implementation of a system.

Results and Discussion

Graphical symbols are used in electrical diagrams to show the wiring

between electrical devices and terminals. Mostly the electrical devices are either

shown in block diagram form or by using commonly defined symbols.

Comprehending symbols is important to be applied in the workplace due to the

fact that it is what you studied and the stuff you wanted to do, after an interview

to the participants, the participants says according to his experience on job

training;

"One of my major experiences in “on the job training” is that when you start to

handle things that are new to you, You are becoming more curious on how

everything works. I experience mistakes in wiring. I used to be shocked and

scared by the electrical short circuit when I accidentally put together the

positive and negative wires, causing a small explosion. When you are involved
in electrical wiring you must always be extra careful and use personal protective

equipment such as gloves, boots and tools to avoid accidents".

It is concluded that knowing how to read signs and electrical symbols not

just for formality and also for the safety of workers and citizens, but mistakes

always happened to everyone especially in OJT students, by doing good in

communication to each and every worker, accidents and mistakes can be lessen,

it always start in the attitude of the person, treat everyone nice and teach your

mates on fields that they know less.
