PRE- PROCEDURE 4
1. Student is neat and tidy and practice hand hygiene
2. Prepare himself/herself by wearing necessary PPE
3. Working table is clean using appropriate disinfectant

5. Cleans the eyepiece and objectives with lens paper
6. Rotates the coarse adjustment clockwise to move down the stage
7. Place the slide on the stage and secure with the specimen holder
8. Selects the scanner to examine the entire slide
9. Rotates carefully and slowly the coarse adjustment counter-clockwise to raise the
stage until the object on the slide comes into focus
10. Positions the condenser almost touching the bottom of the stage
11. Adjusts the interpupillary distance scale and diopter until the object appears
clear
12. Scans the slide using the stage control knob (X and Y axis knobs) while looking
through the eyepiece
13. Rotates the revolving nosepiece carefully to high power objective (HPO)

14. Rotates the fine adjustment knob until the object is in focus, and not the coarse
adjustment knob
15. Put a drop of immersion oil in the center of the slide before adjusting the
magnification to the oil immersion objective

16. Rotates the revolving nosepiece carefully to oil immersion objective (OIO)

17. Views through the eyepiece and slowly turns the fine adjustment until the image
is clear
18. Uses only the fine adjustment knob to focus the OIO and scan the slide

19. After microscopy, rotates the nosepiece and positions the scanner
20. Removes the slide from the mechanical stage
POST- PROCEDURAL 6
21. Cleans the OIO gently with lens paper to remove excess oil
22. Removes oil from the mechanical stage and condenser using a gauze pad
23. Turn off the main switch and unplug the microscope
24. Returns the microscope to its designated cabinet while holding it properly
25. Disinfects working area with the appropriate cleaning solution
26. Dispose of used materials and PPE into separate waste bin and practice hand
hygiene
