Based on Chapter-

Matrices
OBJECTIVE
To relate the
matrices with real life.
Prerequisite Knowledge
Matrix multiplication MATERIALS REQUIRED
.
White paper
Pen/Pencil

Procedure
. Let a
manufacturer produces three products, B and C which he sells in two
cities. Annual sales of these say, A,
products are as shown below.
City Products
A B C
Delhi 5000 1000 20000
Kolkata 6000 18000 8000
We have given the unit sale prices of products A, B, and C as 2.50, 7 1.25
and 1.50
respectively.
We can find the total revenue in each city with the
help of matrices.
2. Let the matrix X represent the sales of three
products A, B and C in two cities.
A B C
5000 1000 20000-Delhi
X=|6000 18000 8000-Kolkata

3. The sale prices per unit of these products are R
and respectively.

Let the Matrix Y represent the sale prices (in R) per unit of these products, then Y =

4. Total revenue (in ) in each city is given by the matrix XY

5000 1000 20000 5
XY =
6000 18000 8000 4

2 a
12500 + 1250 +300000 43750
=

15000 +22500 12000 49500

Total revenue in Delhi =7 43750
Total revenue in Kolkata =7 49500

Observation
Matrix X = Matrix Y =

Matrix XY =

Conclusion
Matrices can be used to solve real life problems with ease.
