8 questions of Chemistry and Section C contains 9 questions of Biology. All questions are
compulsory.
(iii) Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only one
of the alternatives in such questions.
(iv) For case-study questions in section A and C, there is one choice in one subpart, with 3
questions based per case study.
(v) For the reason Assertion question choose one of the following options
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
SECTION A- PHYSICS M.M: 17
Q1 A small electric lamp is placed at the focus of a concave mirror. Draw a ray diagram 1M
to show the nature of the beam obtained by the mirror.
Q2 Assertion (A) : For observing traffic behind the driver, convex mirrors are preferred 1M
as rear-view mirrors.
Reason (R) : A convex mirror always forms a virtual image irrespective of the
position of the object.
Q3 An object 5 cm in length is placed at a distance of 10 cm from a convex mirror of 3M
focal length 15 cm. Find the position, nature and size of the image.
OR OR
Q3 A concave mirror of focal length 20 cm is placed at a distance of 70 cm from a wall.
How far from the wall should an object be placed to get its image on the wall.
Q4 (a) A ray of light is incident on a convex mirror as 3M
shown in the figure. Copy the given ray diagram in
your answer sheet and mark the reflected ray,
normal, angle of incidence and angle of reflection.
(b) Determine the focal length of a spherical mirror
whose radius of curvature is 48 cm.
Q5 The linear magnification produced by a spherical mirror is –1.5 when an object is 5M
placed in front of it. The focal length of the given spherical mirror is 18 cm. Analyze
this value and answer the following question.
(a) What is the nature of the image formed?
(b) What is the type of spherical mirror used?
(c) Determine the position of the object.
(d) Determine the position of the image.
(e) Draw a ray diagram to represent the above case.
Q6 Case-based questions 4M
A dentist is examining the patient's teeth as shown in the
picture below.
Set A
(a) Identify the type of the mirror used by the dentist.

(b) What result would a dentist obtain if he replaced the dentist’s mirror with a plane mirror.
What would be the magnification produced by the plane mirror ?
(c) Write two points of difference between the image formed by a dentist’s mirror and that
formed by a rear-view mirror in vehicles.
OR OR
(c) With the help of a ray diagram describe the nature of the image formed by the dentist’s
mirror as used in the figure above.
SECTION B – CHEMISTRY M.M: 17
Q1 Solid calcium oxide reacts vigorously with water to form calcium hydroxide 1M
accompanied by liberation of heat. This process is called slaking of lime. Calcium
hydroxide dissolves in water to form its solution called lime water. Identify and
define the type of reaction.
Q2 What happens when an iron rod is dipped in copper sulphate solution? Write a 1M
balanced chemical reaction.
Q3 Why is respiration called an exothermic reaction? 1M
Q4 Assertion (A): When HCl is added to zinc granules, a chemical reaction occurs. 1M
Reason (R) : Evolution of a gas and change in colour indicate that the chemical
reaction is taking place.
Q5 (a) What is a skeletal chemical equation? 2M
(b) What are symbols used to represent release of gas and a precipitate?
OR OR
Q5 (a) A chemical compound X is used for manufacturing cement. It is prepared by
heating a compound found in egg shells. Identify X and write the equation for its
preparation.
(b) Name the type of chemical reaction.
Q6 Translate and write the balanced equation for the following chemical reactions. 3M
(i) Hydrogen + Chlorine → Hydrogen chloride
(ii) Barium chloride + Aluminium sulphate → Barium sulphate + Aluminium
chloride
(iii) Sodium + Water → Sodium hydroxide + Hydrogen
Q7 On heating blue coloured powder of copper (II) nitrate in a boiling tube, copper 3M
oxide, oxygen gas and a brown gas X is formed.
(a) Write a balanced chemical equation of the reaction.
(b) Identify the brown gas X evolved.
(c) Identify the type of reaction and define it.
Q8 (a) A chemical compound X is used in the picture given below. Name the compound. 5M
Write its chemical formula and what happens when X is exposed to sunlight.

(b) In electrolysis of water, name the gases collected at anode and cathode and in
what ratio and why?
OR OR

secretion and end products formed.

Q9 Case-based questions 4
M
Look at the diagram of the human respiratory system carefully
Humans take oxygen from air. It is a mechanical process
in which air is regularly taken in and released after gas
exchange. As shown in the diagram given above, air
enters through the nostrils and follows a particular route
to finally reach the sac like lungs. A small amount of air
always remains in the lungs while most of it goes back via
the same route outside. The process of taking air in is
called inhalation and the process of releasing air back is
called exhalation. After the gas exchange, the
oxygenated blood is transported to all the cells where
food is broken down in the presence of oxygen to release
energy.
(a) Name the process that explains the formation of lactic acid in the body of the athlete.

(b) How does the chest cavity expand to store air in the lungs ?
OR OR
(b) What is meant by residual volume of air? What is its role in respiration?

(c) Where does the gas exchange occur after inhalation?
