Chapter one: Introduction ( Background information about HTM 201 and the local field

trip).
A local field trip is an important part of many hospitality and tourism management courses. This

is where students visit a local business in the hospitality or tourism industry, such as a hotel,

restaurant, or tourist attraction. The goal of the field trip is to give students hands-on experience

and insight into how these businesses operate. These trips are often supplemented with guest

lectures or presentations from industry professionals.

There are a few different goals of local field trips in hospitality and tourism management

courses. First, they allow students to see how theoretical concepts from the course are applied in

real-world settings. Second, they give students an opportunity to network with industry

professionals and learn about career opportunities. Third, they provide students with a chance to

develop their practical skills in a real-world setting. And finally, they give students a chance to

experience the culture and atmosphere of a particular destination or industry.
