Controlling Groups and Users

Each user's level of access is determined by the site role they are assigned when they are
added to your Tableau sites. You can also allow guests to view your website and create user
groups.

A Creator, Explorer, or Viewer license is granted to users.


Based on the most site roles a user is allowed to have on that server, license levels are used up. A
Creator license is used by the Creator and Site Administrator roles.
Users of Tableau Cloud are limited to one site role and one license per site.

Adding Visitors to a Website

All users who require access to Tableau Server for any purpose, including browsing,
publishing, editing, or managing the website, must be added. The following choices are
available to administrators when adding users:

user account.

Additionally, you can import an Active Directory group to add users. See Use Active

Use the CSV Import File Guidelines to produce a CSV file that you can use to import users.

User management accessible to site administrators


Administrators of a site have the default ability to add and remove users. Server
administrators have the option to remove this feature from the site's Settings page, limiting
user management to only them.
