Personal Statement

With over 5 years’ of experience teaching English in various educational settings, I am eager to take
the next step in my career by pursuing a PGCE at the University of Sunderland. I believe my
background has prepared me well for this programme, as I hold a Higher Diploma in Early Childhood
Education, and a BA in English and Communication.

My passion for teaching English is innate as I would like to serve as a good example for minority
teachers in Hong Kong. I have experience teaching English to primary, secondary, and adult learners
in contexts ranging from schools to private tutoring to language centres. These diverse experiences
have allowed me to develop a dynamic teaching style to engage all types of learners.

Sunderland's values of equality, diversity, and community align well with my own. I am committed to
creating an inclusive classroom where students of all backgrounds can develop not just linguistically,
but socially and emotionally. The practical classroom experiences offered through this programme
appeal to me, as I am eager to translate my passion for English into effective teaching approaches.
