STUDENT ESSAY FORM (StEF)
Effective Date:

DATE SUBMITTED: MARCH 3, 2023

COURSE / SECTION: CWTS102-A74
ACTIVITY TITLE: Case Analysis
CASE STORY TITLE: Natural Reserve Institute of Barangay Bayalse

Conflict Identification
The barangay, Brgy. Bayalse submitted their environmental concerns to the Nature Reserve
Institute. The barangay has suffered the effects of climate change and global warming. They
experienced abnormal flooding, landslides, and excessive heat that causes their farmlands to dry.
And the bad thing is that, when these phenomena occur, their location is unreachable and cannot
receive help from the other place. These phenomena that they experienced is causing their
economy to fall. But not only the economy has the evident effect but also the people’s mental
health.
Plan of Action
I proposed that the barangay will fund a planting program, planting trees to be specific. Base on
the case presented, I found out that there is an abnormal flooding to their place which leads to
an idea that maybe their place does not have trees to absorb the water. It also stated that the
barangay has eroded soil that causes landslides. This move, planting program, is a win move for
their barangay. Trees are known for their function to absorb water. Planting trees also affect the
quality of soil. They regulate the erosion and transform soil to a healthy one. Excessive heats are
mostly due to carbon emissions. Trees can use those excess carbon dioxide that causes the
increase of temperature and convert it as their food. With regards to its unreachable place, I
suggest that they would clear and create a cemented path that can be easily cleared when there
is a unexpected phenomenon that comes somewhere in their place.
Reflection
I realized here the importance of trees in this scenario. We may think that it is just a tree and
didn’t realize how useful its functions serve. It may take a long time for trees to grow, and we
cannot really feel its effect on the spot, but it is now or never. If we never plant trees, we will
never experience it benefits and at the same time suffer the consequences of climate change and
global warming just like what Brgy. Bayalse experienced. It is okay to wait for it today than to
regret for the rest of our lives.
