1. apprehended (verb)
Meaning: caught and arrested
Sentence: The thief was apprehended by the police as soon as he
tried to use the stolen credit card.

2. cockiness (noun)
Meaning: bold or brash self-confidence
Sentence: Annoyed by his cockiness, Julia reminded her brother of
the saying ‘pride goes before a fall’.

3. critical (adjective)
Meaning: extremely important
Sentence: The decision of which school to enrol in is critical to your
future.

4. cur (noun)
Meaning: an aggressive dog
Sentence: The violent drunk kicked the cur to the roadside when it
bit him.

5. expertly (adverb)
Meaning: in a skilful way
Sentence: The pianist expertly moved her fingers over the keys to
capture the complexity of the intricate tune.

Meaning: large in size or scale
Sentence: Sheikh suffered extensive injuries in a serious
motorcycle accident.

7. renowned (adjective)
Meaning: famous and respected
Sentence: Jake is a renowned architect who has designed some of
the most iconic buildings in the world.

8. scoping (verb)
Meaning: examining something carefully before you start work on
it so that you know the size of the task
Sentence: Scoping out your location is absolutely vital before
beginning construction of a building.

9. shimmied (verb)
Meaning: climbed quickly by gripping with arms and legs
Sentence: The trapeze artist quickly shimmied up the pole and
launched into her breathtaking routine.

10. stealthy (adjective)


Meaning: quiet and trying not to be observed
Sentence: The stealthy cat crept silently towards its prey.
