Jammu and Kashmir has a rich history, but it has been controversial. An example is the article 370.

Article 370 was a part of the Indian Constitution that granted special status to the state of
Jammu and Kashmir. This meant the state had its own constitution and the Indian parliament
couldn't make laws for it without the state government's consent, except in areas like defense,
foreign affairs, and communication.

But, this special status was revoked in 2019.

The article stated that without the permission of the jammu and Kashmir constituent
assembly and its parliament the article couldn’t be abrogated. But the problem with this was
that the constituent assembly had been dissolved decades earlier. How was the article
removed then.

During the elections in jammu and Kashmir in December 2014, neither BJP or PDP the top
two ranking parties in the elections couldn’t form a govt without each other’s help so they
formed a coalition and formed a govt. But on 19th June 2018 BJP withdraws from the
coalition and therefore there was no govt in jammu and Kashmir anymore and according to
the article 92 jammu and Kashmir would be under the leadership of the governer for 6
months who was selected by the majority party in the Indian parliament and then after the six
months the president rule would start. When the six months ended the presidents notification
was passed which stated that the governer would continue ruling in behalf of the president
and the Indian parliament would act on behalf of the lok sabha of jammu and Kashmir.

A notice was issued by the president on 5 august 2019 which stated that henceforth the
constituent assembly of jammu and Kashmir which had been dissolved would be the Indian
parliament.

With this after the permission of the governer who was the head of the state and the Indian
parliament who were the new constituent assembly as well as the revocation being approved
by the lok sabha, rajya sabha and the president the article 370 was officially abrogated.

Jammu and Kashmir would be split into two union territories that were jammu and Kashmir
itself and Ladakh.
