THE COFFEE
Coffee is part of Ecuador's identity. This crop, one of the oldest
in the region, is also on the list of products that are increasingly
integrated into foreign trade and deforestation-free production
initiatives, responding to demand in Europe and Asia.
Function of
coffee
Coffee is usually consumed hot, but
thanks to the innovations and adaptations
that it receives around the world, it can be
drunk in different ways.

In order for a quality coffee to grow, a

stable climate is necessary, where humidity
and warmth predominate. Within coffee
there is a substance known as caffeine.
This is its main characteristic. It is ideal to
stimulate fatigue and drowsiness. Besides
that, it provides the body with well-being
and euphoria.
Countries where coffee is
exported
The product was exported by sea to strong markets, such as the United States, and
from there those who acquired it sent it, for example, to Europe.
The soluble market is much larger than any other," he says. "Ecuadorian
coffee is especially present in Russia, an important buyer of our soluble
coffee.
Packaging

• To avoid this deterioration of quality, the coffee

beans are packaged in an inert atmosphere that
allows the gases that are released from the beans to
escape.

• In the case of ground coffees, the vacuum technique is

used, leaving a hard package with minimal residual
oxygen.

• In the latter case the ground coffee can be packaged immediately after
grinding. In both cases the shelf life of the product exceeds twelve months.

Characteristics the packaging

fibres and is marked with natural inks that will not
affect the coffee inside.

Polypropylene packaging is equally safe for the product, and allows the
coffee to breathe.
type of transport

Bulk transport avoids most of the problems associated with

bagged cargo

there are no bag odours or weight losses due to handling, and quality
preservation is generally better.

For the export of coffee, 20-feet (6-metre) containers are generally

used; prior to loading the coffee, the exporter must make a physical
inspection of the container and check that it is clean, free of holes or
strange odours
