ELECTRIC MACHINES LABORATORY REPORT-EEE371

1. Introduction

In this LAB we will find the polarity of a transformer because sometime transformer’s
manufacturers have not mentioned the polarity on the transformer itself.

We will perform its hardware lab as well as software lab.

2. Operation
Most transformers do not have polarity markings. Even when marked it should be
checked to see if the marking is according to standard practice. The objective is to
determine this polarity

4. Conclusion
In this lab we learned how to give polarities to the terminal of the transformer if the
manufactures have not labeled it.
Questions
1. Why we need to determine polarity transformer?
We do polarity test on parallel transformers to ensure that we connect the
same polarity windings and not the opposite ones. If we accidentally connect the
opposite polarities of the windings, it will result in a short-circuit and eventually damage the
machine
2. What is the condition for both type of polarity?

X-------- . When connections are like this or this . --------------X its additive.

While when connections are like this . .--------- or this X------------X its subtractive.
