I just wanted to say that it is important to know that we have all of those considerations to assess. I mean, one

signification from a lot can add or show its influence, but we cannot make a judgment based on only one
signification. :)

Now, for the use of the lot. It is like a house cusp.

First of all, for a lot to be activated and to be operative, its ruler has to be able to see it(not in aversion). and the
closer the aspect to the lots degree, the more certain of that operation.
Message the mods
And its operation is influenced by its ruler´s condition(dignities, its position..etc), and testimony of other planets
aspecting the lot or its ruler.

So, in other words, first, its ruler has to aspect the sign where the lot is. And if the ruler is dignified and in a strong
and beneficial house, what it signifies is very strong and must be beneficial to the native.

Close beneficial aspects from benefics are considered good, and close malefic aspects from malefics are
considered bad.

For the timing, when the house it is in, or the ruler of the lot gets activated, they become activated too. I think exact
aspects from significant planets to the lot should be considered somewhat meaningful, in other prediction
techniques.

Here´s an example from my experience

I have two lot of marriage in Virgo. One of them is derived from Venus and the 7th house(ASC + 7th house(whole
sign) - Venus /both day and night), it is at 23 degrees Virgo in the bounds of Mars, and Saturn is conjunct with the
lot. More important is the trine aspect partile to the lot from its ruler Mercury and the Sun.

=> Sun & its ruler Mercury´s partile aspect to the lot : My feeling and desire for marriage is very public and open. I
met my husband when my profection was to Leo, and the Sun became the timelord. My Sun was in the 7th house in
the SR that year. Interstingly, SR ASC was my natal 7th house too.

=> The lot is in the bounds of Mars, and conjunct Saturn in Virgo. Whenever the profection was to Virgo, we had
difficulties in our relationship. During my last Virgo profection, we(I..? haha) seriously considered divorce and even
filed divorce papers. lol Once I passed that year, things got better and we´re okay now..

I hope this helps in understanding how lots become operative and how we should assess them in relation to their
position, their rulers, and aspects from other planets. :)

In terms of topical lots, if the ruler is averse, are judgements based upon the lot impossible? Or are things
simply less stable? Does this apply to the 7 hermetic lots as well? (I ask, because those lots seem to be more
foundational.)

The resources presently are scarce for doing what is essentially a natal chart reading of lot placements. In theory,
you look at the lot lord's dignity (IE the planet) and that you can ascertain certain things. Unfortunately the
resources for this type of analyses are scant at the moment since we don't have a lot of delineations from the
hellenic tradition. I know the arabs used lots extensively and in my astrology app delphic oracle, there's a full list of
different ones from marriage to brothers, sisters, and the like.

I know astro.com has them on an extended PDF somewhere.

I have read that the LoF when placed in the 8th house ruled by Mercury makes for a dullard which is curious.
