Task for developing physics skills

1. Qualitative task
Task: Using refraction theory that you have learnt, please explain the daily
phenomenon that when you are in the swimming pool, the lower part of your
body sunk in the water looks bigger than the reality.
Introduction: Using light refraction law.
Answer: When a light ray moves from one clear environment to another, it
will be diverted into another direction compared with the original direction.
Depend on the coming angle, we have different ratio of the real object and
its picture. That’s the reason why we can see that part of our body bigger
than it seems.

After solving this problem, the student can develop the skill of observing the
natural phenomenon and applying physics theory into daily situation.
2. Calculating task
Task: A light ray coming from the water having the extract of 4/3 to the
glass having the extract of 1.5. Calculate the diverting angle D when
incoming angle i=300.
Answer:
After solving this problem, the student can memorize the equations and
apply it into related tasks.
