According to the WHO, there were 27.9 million nurses
globally in 2020, making up nearly 60 percent of the
health professions and the largest occupational group
in the health sector. However, there is an estimated
shortage of up to 13 million nurses around the world.

rather men, called Parabolani

care of sick people.

In the fourth century, Fabiola of


(Rome) volunteered to make
her luxury home a hospital,
helping the poor and sick to
feed themselves.

In 1633, the Sisters Chariting established in


France. It was the first organization under
the Pope to take care of sick people. The
organization has sent nurses around the
world, and has established hospitals in
Canada, the United States and Australia.

In the eighteenth - nineteenth centuries, social


reform changed the role of women in society in
general. During this period, a British woman
gained the world's respect and worshipped the
founder of Nursing. Florence Nightingale.

The birth of the Vietnam Nurses Association
On October 26, 1990, the Vietnamese Nursing Association opened its
first congress. (1990 - 1993). The board of the Nursing Association
has 31 members in both regions. Ms. Vi Thi Nguyet Ho is the president
and three vice presidents.
On October 26, 2017, the 7th National Congress of Nurses (2017 -
2022) was held in Da Nang and the new Executive Board consisting of
29 members.
Over the course of 28 years of development, the Association
has had seven congresses: 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012,
2017. Each Congress marks a milestone in the development of
the Nursing Field and Professional Nurses . The Executive
Board of the VIIth Congress of the term of 2017 - 2022 has 29
members, the Association size: 59/63 provinces, 91,619
members.
On October 27, 2017, the 8th National Congress of the
Vietnam Nurses Association.
