MODULE #8 JOY IRISH C.

PANLILIO BSHM 1-D

Assessment
Answer the following questions:

1. What is audible range?

Audible range refers to the range of sound frequencies that can be heard by
humans or other animals. It can also refer to the range of levels of sound pressure
deviating from atmospheric pressure due to sound waves.
The human audible range is commonly listed as 20 to 20,000 Hz, although there
are considerable variations between individuals, particularly at high frequencies.
Gradual loss of sensitivity to higher frequencies with age is normal.

2. In what units of measurement is pitch measured? How about volume?

The frequency or pitch of sound is measured in Hertz (Hz)
Volume is the quantity of three-dimensional space enclosed by a closed surface, for
example, the space that a substance (solid, liquid, gas, or plasma) or shape occupies or
contains. Volume is often quantified numerically using the SI derived unit, the cubic
metre.
SI unit: Cubic metre
Other units: Litre, fluid ounce, gallon, quart, pint,
In SI base units: 1 m3

3. Research the term “white noise. Define and explain.

White noise is random noise that has a flat spectral density — that is,
the noise has the same amplitude, or intensity, throughout the audible frequency range
(20 to 20,000 hertz) For example, some people use white noise machines as sleep aids
to drown out annoying noises in the environment.

4. Research the term “music of the spheres.” Define and explain.

The musica universalis (literally universal music), also called music of the
spheres or harmony of the spheres, is an ancient philosophical concept that regards
proportions in the movements of celestial bodies – the Sun, Moon, and planets – as a
form of music.
