2022 SERMON FOR PROMOTION SUNDAY {EXCHANGE OF PULPIT}

TOPIC: DELIGHTING IN BUILDING HOUSE FOR GOD

TEXT: 1 CHRONICLES 29:1-9

HYMN: BH 357 – “TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE

FOCUS: THE FOCUS OF THIS SERMON IS TO ENCOURAGE, CHALLENGE, MOTIVATE,

OR INFORM EVERY CHURCH WITHIN THE NCBA TO GIVE WILLINGLY, FAITHFULLY
AND SACRIFICIALLY TO THE WORK OF THE CHURCH AND ASSOCIATION AS A BODY
AND BY EXTENSION, TO THE CONFERENCE AND CONVENTION AT LARGE.
INTRODUCTION: If there is anything one can learn from David’s life, it is setting good examples for
others to follow in the area of serving God.
Of course, there were few terrible things David did to his own regret {e.g. Uriah’s case, Counting his
fighting soldiers against God’s will}, yet in term of worshipping God, and accord God due honour and
worth, he set believers good examples
THE TEXT FOR THE SERMON: As we consider the issue of building house for God, it is pertinent to
consider what David did to raise fund for the gigantic project just about to be placed before the next
generation of leaders {Christians}.
What to do with our possessions and wealth when it comes to issue of offering unto God through who all
blessings flow, the following points can be derived from the text:
1. Delighting in building house for God calls for affection for what projects or boosts the image and glory
of God --- 1 Chronicles 29:3A {See 1 Chronicles 28:2; 2 Samuel 7:1-2}
Anyone who will build house for God or give sacrificially to the work of God must have this mentality:
“Whatever that will bring shame to the name of the Lord must not be allow to happen;”
“I must do everything to make sure that the name of my God is not dragged in the mud.”
=== David said, “How can I be living or dwelling in a house of cedar but the Ark of God dwells inside
curtains” GOD FORBID!
2. Delighting in building house for God calls for personal sacrifice --- 1 Chronicles 29:2-5
David gave from his personal fortune for the temple.
Both the Tabernacle and the Temple were built from voluntary gifts of the people {See Exodus 35:4ff, vs
20-29}
=== David was able to give sacrificially because he had good understanding of the fact that all he had
came from God {See 1 Chronicles 29:14-16}
It is God that give power to make wealth – Deuteronomy 8:18
We may not have David’s kind of wealth but we can develop the same heart of giving the little
widow’s mite
It is not what we have that counts with God but our faithfulness in giving according to how God has
blessed us
3. Delighting in building house for God calls for willing response by Godly people – 1 Chronicles 29:6, &
9b
Those who intend to build house for God do not wait for someone to force them or cajole them to do the
needful. But they always do it willingly like David because they love the work of God.
They are also ready to sacrifice everything so that the name of God will be glorified.
4. Delighting in building house for God brings and multiply the joy and blessings of God’s people 1
Chronicles 29:9 {See Acts 20:35 and 2 Corinthians 9:8 & 10}
CONCLUSION: As the message is being brought to a close, one may want to ask the members how many
“Davids” do we have in the Association?
How many people will always sing “TAKE MY LIFE AND MY SILVER, THEY ARE ALL YOURS,
LORD ?
