DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

DESCRIPTION In this unit of study you will learn how complementary therapies is part of the overall
health system and how to continue your professional development and keep up to date
with the latest industry news.
The unit will also get you to define your purpose for being in practice, set goals and
objectives and look at some components of a business plan.

Self Directed Learning
Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research
and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and
group discussion.

LEARNING At the end of this unit students will be able to:

3. Contribute to the development of professional practices

5. Prepare a business plan

• Academic Study Skills including referencing
• Variety of methods to collect and evaluate data in a clinical setting will be discussed.
• Access and evaluate literature on the theory and practice of traditional, alternative and
scientific medicine

• Evaluate, contrast and compare new treatments, protocols and other new ideas
• Use knowledge of the historical, theoretical and philosophical aspects of the field of
practice to improve existing practices
• Professional development activities
• Critically evaluation of specific research on complementary medicine including, research
strategies, research requirements and reporting research

• Business planning for healthcare practitioner


• Financial, operational, marketing and personal management strategies for a healthcare
practitioner

• Continuing development of knowledge and skills.
