1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this instruction is to provide the guidelines for doing Concrete works on hot weather and
to satisfy all the relevant specifications and requirements.

2.0 SCOPE

This document shall be applicable for concrete works conducted on hot weather under the project-

5.0 ROLES &RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 Project Manager

He shall be responsible for:

a) Responsible for overall execution, administration, monitoring and control of the project as per the
Contractual requirements, specifications & PQP.
b) Coordinate with Divisional Manager - Projects for obtaining necessary resources for the project and
deploy as required.
c) Responsible for managing all interfaces with Client and Divisional Manager - Projects.
d) Responsible for coordinating for all the procurement and subcontracting activities related to the
project
e) Deal with all contractual matters to the project
f) Monitor the actual progress of the work against planned program.
g) Ensure Quality Management System of the Contractor is effectively implemented in the Project.
h) Obtain subcontractors Procedures / Plans / Method Statements, where applicable and coordinate
approval of the same.
i) Assess manpower, equipment and other resources required to achieve targets set.
j) Coordinate with the Procurement Unit in carrying out procurement activities for the project.
k) Liaise with Construction Manager to ensure timely completion of civil activities pertaining to the
project
l) Liaise with Divisional Manager - QA/QC for preparation and updating PQP.
m) Analyze deviation or change of contract scope in coordination with Construction Manager and update
Divisional Manager - Projects.
n) Analyze deviations, change of contract scope or delays, if required, and reschedule to meet target dates
in coordination with the Construction Manager.
o) Ensure through the Construction Manager that appropriate actions are taken on all NCRs and Audit
Non-Conformances raised in the Project.
p) Ensure through the QA/QC Engineer that all Corrective & Preventive Actions taken in the Project are
Effective.
q) Identify Training needs and Coordinate with appropriate function for fulfilling the Training
Requirements.

r) Reports to the Divisional Manager-Projects

5.2 Site Engineer

He shall be overall responsible for safe execution of the complete activity including, but not limited to:

c) Assigning work crew.
d) Sequence of activities to be carried out for the work as per this work procedure.
e) Stage Inspection & Surveillance.
f) Ensure all safety Regulations are followed as applicable.
g) Contract specific requirements for excavations, if any specified shall be identified and the
requirements of such specification shall prevail in addition to the non-conflicting requirements of
this procedure.
h) Ensure & study the approved drawings & statements before starting the activity.

5.3 Supervisor:

He shall be responsible for the following activities:


a) Tool Box talks with the concerned work force prior to start of the work is a mandatory requirement.
b) Ensure that relevant permits applied and obtained prior to the commencement of work.
c) Organizing tools and equipment required to the work site.
d) Ensure all PPE’s are available with all the workers involved in the work.
e) Inspection of all works at every stage.
f) Ensuring the sufficient First Aiders is available with the crew.
g) Ensure all Safety Regulations are followed as applicable.

5.4 QA/QC Inspector

He shall be responsible for:


a) Stage Inspections and Surveillance in accordance with QCP and assurance of quality of work as per
specification and approved procedures.

b) Ensure all the testing equipments are calibrated and calibration certificate is available at site.
c) Ensure availability of latest Approved for construction drawings/Specifications and reference
documents.
d) Proper handing over of test packs if required.

5.5 HSE Officer

He shall be responsible for:


a) Be familiar with the Haya general safety, contractual requirements.
b) Advising site persons of any problems relating to the implementation of the HSE plan.
c) Permanent member of the HSE committee compiles and presents HSE site specific reports.
d) Maintain records of HSE meetings and ensures that routine HSE meetings and toolbox talks are
carried out, actions recorded, as stipulated in the HSE procedures.
e) Carryout safety audits and inspections, record proceedings and follow up recommendations.
f) Arrange for the distribution and display of safety posters and other safety promotional material.
g) Provide relevant advice on health, safety and environmental issues to all employees.
h) Assist with investigations of all accidents or incidents.
i) Maintain copies of all accident/incident reports and provide a monthly report and accident statistics to
the HSE professional.
j) Provide technical support in the preparation of departmental HSE action plans.
k) Demonstrate active involvement in HSE training programs.
l) Carryout assessment of sub-contractor activities and HSE systems.
m) Generally monitor Occupational health risk assessments, performance monitoring and surveillance.

6.0 ASSOCIATED REQUIREMENTS

6.1 HSE Requirements

a) Ensure all P & M Equipments being used for the activity are in good working condition

b) Ensure the work area shall be barricaded.

c) Ensure the vehicles & machineries shall have valid Mulkiya & Third Party inspection certificate for
lifting equipments.

d) The tool Box talk shall be carried out before starting the work.

e) Ensure all necessary PPEs are worn by workers involved in the work.

7.0 METHODOLOGY FOR HOT WEATHER CONCRETING

a) Approved batching plant nearby project site shall be selected for reducing transportation time of
concrete during hot weather
b) Mixes, chutes, conveyor belts, hoppers, pump lines and other equipments for handling concrete
should be shaded painted white or covered with wet burlap to reduce solar heat.
c) Separate concrete mix design shall be prepared as required for hot weather concreting.
d) Trial mix shall be conducted for such mix designs and reports to be evaluated to ensure concrete
temperature, consistency ,strength and durability of concrete is not compromised
e) Chilled water shall be used substituting chipped or shaved ice for portions of mixing water in
production of ready mix concrete
f) Aggregates shall be shaded properly, sprinkle water on coarse aggregates stock piles
g) If necessity liquid nitrogen can be injected in to concrete mixes for great control of concrete
temperature
h) Upon following above precautionary methods concrete temperature shall be kept under 32 o C
during transportation and placing of concrete
i) Reinforcement shall be kept in shade for minimum 4 hours prior to concreting
j) Any formwork made of steel or material of higher thermal capacity shall be cooled with water
before placing of concrete
k) Moisten sub grade, reinforcement with chilled water prior to concrete placement
l) Approved source of mix water shall be used for cooling forms and reinforcements
m) Free stand water shall be removed prior to concrete placing
n) Temporary wind breaks shall be erected to limit wind velocities around pouring area.
o) Sunscreen or evaporation retardants shall be made for restriction of loss of concrete consistency
p) Provide sufficient manpower to minimize time requirement to place and finish the concrete
q) Protect the concrete with temporary coverings such as polythene sheeting during any appreciable
delay between placing and finishing
r) Curing shall be initiated as soon as finishing process have been completed

s) Curing shall be done by covering concrete with wet burlap and imperforated polythene sheeting
of suitable thickness securely fixed at edge so that air cannot circulate.
