he/she started as a poor person until he/she succeeded in life (political, education, business,
religious field). Write his/her success story. Use a separate paper for your output. You will be

Name of the Successful Person: Manny Pacquiao

Success Story:
Manny Pacquiao was born into a life of poverty in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines. His family
struggled to make ends meet, and he had to drop out of school at a young age to help
support them. Pacquiao began boxing at the age of 12, fighting in amateur matches to earn
money for his family.

Despite the challenges he faced, Pacquiao's determination and natural talent as a boxer
propelled him to meteoric success. He turned professional in 1995 and quickly rose through
the ranks, winning multiple world championships in different weight classes. Pacquiao's
fame and wealth grew exponentially, and he became one of the most recognizable and
successful athletes in the Philippines and around the world.
In addition to his boxing career, Pacquiao has also pursued a successful political career. He
was elected to the Philippine House of Representatives in 2010, and in 2016, he was elected
to the Philippine
Senate. Pacquiao has used his platform to advocate for the poor and underprivileged, and
he has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for many Filipinos.

Pacquiao's journey from poverty to success is a testament to the power of hard work,
determination, and perseverance. Despite the many challenges he faced, he never gave up
on his dreams and was able to achieve remarkable success in both the sporting and political
arenas.

1. Describe the life/life situation of the person above before he becomes successful.
- Manny Pacquiao was born into a life of poverty in the Philippines. His family struggled to
make ends meet, and he had to drop out of school at a young age to help support them. He
began boxing as a young boy to earn money for his family.

2. Is the status of the successful person above ascribed or achieved? Why?


- Manny Pacquiao's status as a successful boxer and politician is clearly an achieved status.
He was not born into wealth or privilege, but rather had to work hard and overcome
significant obstacles to achieve his success. His rise to fame and fortune was the result of his
own talent, determination, and perseverance.

3. Does social stratification affect life chances of an individual? Explain.


- Yes, social stratification can significantly affect an individual's life chances. Pacquiao's story
demonstrates how being born into poverty can make it much more difficult to achieve
success and upward mobility. However, his story also shows that with hard work and
determination, it is possible to overcome the challenges of social stratification and achieve
remarkable success, even for those born into the lowest socioeconomic classes.
