Key Exchange: X

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The X key exchange box is a product designed to enable the release of keys by insertion of an initial key(s). The
requirement for this type of product usually arises due to there being more keys required than the initial isolation
system supplies. The unit will generally be the link between the isolation locks and the access products. The product
is supplied in an enclosure suitable for surface mounting. There is no limit to the number of locks or how they are
configured.

OPERATION key is trapped. All secondary keys must be re-inserted

1 in to release 3 example. to enable removal of the isolation key.
The isolation key is free and the three secondary keys
are trapped. Insertion of the isolation key enables the TYPICAL SYSTEM
sequential removal of the secondary keys. Once the The ‘X’ is designed to operate as part of an integrated
first secondary key has been removed, the isolation safety system. A typical example is shown below.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The electrical and pneumatic supplies to the machine are switched on and the access doors to the hazardous area
are locked closed. The initial keys are trapped in the AV and the KS20 Locks.
To enter the area, the key in the KS20 is released, locking the switch off and the key in the AV is released isolating the
pneumatic supply.
These two keys are then inserted into the ‘X Key Exchange Box’ to release a further two keys which are used to open
the ‘AIE’ access locks on the doors. Whilst these keys are out of the ‘X box’ the initial power supplies cannot be
switched on.
