BRANCHPIPE NOZZLES, WATER FIRE FIGHTING EQPT

HAND HELD WATER NOZZLES.

This specification covers the minimum requirements for the design, engineering, manufacturing and testing
of hand held water nozzles.

Deviations from this specification shall be mentioned, explained and approved by the principal.

Nozzle, a device intended to discharge water in a full fog, semi fog and straight pattern. Nozzles shall be of
the hand held type.

Nozzles shall be made of lightweight materials which have a proven resistance and durability to the
application where it is designed for and the environment in which it shall be used. The materials and
coatings shall be suitable for sea water and outdoor weather conditions. They shall be according to in the
oil industry accepted standards and to manufacturers standard. When different types of materials are put
together, they shall not decrease the corrosion resistance of the materials itself.

All material parts shall be indicated by supplier for agreement.

Nozzles shall be designed to fully stop the flow, to operate the nozzle by adjusting: from fully closed through
full fog and semi fog to jet stream.

The different types of flow pattern shall be clearly marked on the nozzles.

Nozzles shall be provided with a suitable pistol type handgrip. In case hose connection is of storz or
screwed type, nozzle shall have a swivel connection to ensure that pistol grip can be rotated to the
underside.

Maximum weight of the nozzle shall not exceed 3 kg.

All types of hose couplings shall be mechanically secured by fixed screws on the nozzle, to prevent coming
loose.

Nozzles shall be provided with approved coupling types: Storz or instantaneous, male connection, as
specified by principal.

the valve, the nozzle and connections shall be suitable for operating pressures up to 10 bar(GA) and a
maximum pressure rating of 16 bar(GA) for the inlet connection and the valve.

The capacity of the hand held water nozzles shall be approximately 25 M3/H (420 DM3/MIN.) at 7 bar(GA).
Minimum jet flow distance at 7 bar(GA): 12 meter.

Conservation:
Permanent coating (e.g. black) of the lightweight material, or by principal approved manufacturers standard.

Testing:
Nozzles types shall be tested and certified by an independent, by principal approved, authority, conform the
following:

A range of stream test for the nozzle are to be conducted at the minimum and maximum, by manufacturer
recommended, inlet pressure, and a pressure midway between these operating pressures. Tests have to
be run under low wind conditions, not exceeding 4.5 M/S (10 miles per hour - 16 knots per hour). With test
nozzle elevated at 30 degrees from horizontal and water discharging onto a hard surface.

Range of water stream discharging from the nozzle is to be measured from nozzle tip to the centre of the
ground pattern at straight stream and 30 degrees spray.

A fire shielding test in fire conditions under attack performance.

Test shall include minimal following data:

- throwing distance, measured as a footprint (area where 80% of total water flow reaches the target, min.
to max. distance and width) for narrow fog and jet stream at 30 degrees elevation.
- pressure upstream nozzle.
- diameter of used hose connection.
- flow rate.
- wind speed and direction.
- angle between wind direction.
- length and width of footprint.
- curtain width.

Performance with AFFF in non aerated from:

- throwing distance, measured as a footprint.

- capacity.
- expansion ratio.
- type and make of AFFF.

Types of nozzles:

- constant flow.
- variable flow.
