CYBER CRIME
IN INDIA. The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of
tomorrow. We are all now connected by the Internet, like neurons in a giant brain.
In fact the internet became boon and bane for the people today. Nowadays. Moreover,
with the growing need of the internet, protecting our information and data has also
become a necessity. Whether you own a company, business or if you're simply a
habitual user of the internet, you should be aware of how to minimize threats,
risks, and cybercrime as well as be cautious, proactive and stay informed of Cyber-
Criminals. The advancement of technology has made man dependent on Internet for all
his needs. Internet has given man easy access to everything while sitting at one
place. Social networking, online shopping, storing data, gaming, online studying,
online jobs, every possible thing that man can think of can be done through the
medium of internet. Internet is used in almost every sphere. With the development
of the internet and its related benefits also developed the concept of cybercrimes.
Cyber-crimes are committed in different forms. A few years back, there was lack of
awareness about the crimes that could be committed through internet. In the matters
of cybercrimes, India is also not far behind the other countries where the rate of
incidence of cybercrimes is also increasing day by day. According to the latest
government data, India has recorded a massive increase of 63.5% in cybercrime cases
in the year 2019. The National Crime Record Bureau's (NCRB) data stated that 44,546
cases of cybercrimes were registered in 2019 as compared to 28,248 in 2018. The
highest number of cybercrime cases were registered in Karnataka (12,020) closely
followed by Uttar Pradesh (11,416), Maharashtra (4,967), Telangana (2,691) and
Assam (2,231). Among the Union Territories, Delhi accounted for 78% of cybercrime.
Methodology: In this research paper the data for the present study is collected
mainly through secondary sources the objectivity of historical and current writings
has been used to develop a frame work of the study and to arrive at an unbiased
conclusion. The data collected with a view to identify and analysis the constant
rise of cybercrime in India.
