EXPERIMENT- 2

• AIM

To determine the solubility of the given sample.

• MATERIALS REQUIREMENT

a) Chemicals Requirement:

Sodium hydroxide ( 5%solution ), Sodium bicarbonate ( 5%solution ) , Hydrochloric acid (

5%solution ) , Ether, conc. Sulphuric acid .

b) Glassware Requirement:

Test tube, Test tube holder, bunsen burner, spatula, dropper, litmus paper etc. as required.

• THEORY:

Solubility:

Solubility of a compound can be defined as the amount of solute in a given amount of solvent to
form a saturated solution at constant conditions or it can be defined thermodynamically as the
most stable crystalline form of a solute in a given solvent at equilibrium conditions.

Saturated solution:

A saturated solution is a solution that contains the maximum amount of solute that can be
dissolved in a solvent at equilibrium conditions.

Importance of solubility :

Therapeutic effectiveness of a drug depends upon the bioavailability of a drug thus, upon the
solubility of drug in biological systems.

Also, solubility is one of the important parameter to achieve desired concentration of drug in
systemic circulation for pharmacological response to be shown.

• PROCEDURE :

( flowchart )

• RESULT:

Test for detection of solubility of conpounds is performed.
