Biology Final Project: Poster Presentation

The poster presentation consists of three components:

1. Concept Map - The concept map is a visual representation that shows the main topic and its
relevant subtopics and any other ideas or relationships among them. There should be limited
amount of words on the concept map, it SHOULD only contain key words enclosed in shapes
such as circles, boxes, triangles etc. and then arrows that makes connection to other ideas or
subtopics.
2. Graphic Organizer – This is similar to the concept map in terms of it being a visual presentation
but instead of using keywords, you are to use diagrams/pictures to represent the various ideas
and relationships. As well, it should have arrows or connectors that will show the connections of
ideas and subtopics.
3. Note-sheet – the note sheet as the name indicates is a page with the descriptive notes of the
ideas and the relationships. The note-sheet can be presented as a full page summary having two
to three paragraphs with the notes, vocabulary of keywords and the key concepts or it may be
short descriptions/phrases arranged in neat sections.

Additional to these three pages you should have a cover page that should have:

 Name
 Class
 Date
 Topic
 Any other diagram or décor you choose

And also a reference/bibliography page – this section should have a list of all sources that you used to
gather notes, diagrams, structures or information. If it is a book, include the name of book, author and
edition; if it is a website then include the name of the website along with hyperlink.

Presentation Rules/Do’s & Don’ts:

1. You copy & paste the concept chart from online sources – You must make your own. You can
use online versions as guides to refer to but editing and arrangement must be your own
2. You cannot use already prepared notes copied directly from the internet – Make sure any notes
you get form the internet is summarized and fonts/writing edited or formatted. Ensure that all
words/terms used are simple and easy to understand. If new (big words or scientific words)
must be used ensure to include them in the vocabulary list.
3. Be careful of font, color scheme and drawing used. Font should be standard throughout
sections being used for and font chosen should legible with appropriate size.
4. Try to make each of the 3 main page as attractive as possible without being too bold and ensure
to check your grammar, spelling and sentence structure.
5. Topics will be open for selection but approval must be received from teacher. First come, First
serve basis. No two students are allowed to do the same topic to avoid cheating/copying or
plagiarism of work.
