Rationale
Risk   analysis   (RA)   is   being   widely   applied   to   all   most   every   engineering   and   management   sector.
In  many  of  the  engineering  sectors  such  as  chemical,  oil  and  gas,  environment,  risk  analysis  has
been  adopted  as  part  of  regulatory  framework  by  relevant  authorities.  RA  is  increasingly  applied
to   validate   claims   for   safety/environmental   benign   characteristics   or   to   demonstrate   the   need
for   further   improvement.     It   is   also   increasingly   used   in   the   engineering   system   design   and
decision-‐making.    This  course  is  to  provide  an  in-‐depth  understanding  of  safety  and  risk  and  it
modeling,  simulation  and  use  in  design  and  decision-‐making.

SCOPE  OF  THE  COURSE

Since   RA   is   becoming   ever   more   widely   used   with   growing   sophistication,   the   course   aim   to
provide  a  detailed  understanding  of  advanced  safety  concepts,  risk  concept,  risk  modeling  and
simulation,   and   more   recent   advancement   in   the   field   of   risk   and   reliability   engineering.
Another  important  aim  of  the  course  is  to  provide  a  good  understanding  of  uncertainty  in  the
Risk   and   reliability   modeling.   This   course   will   also   provide   a   good   understanding   of   human
reliability   assessment,   which   is   one   of   the   import   contributors   to  the   safety   issues   and   often   get
ignored  by  engineers.
