Historical Crisis Council

Adressing the resolution of Vietam War

South Korea

Addressing the pressing issues, suggested solutions, and a peaceful resolution of

the Vietnam War, and representing the Republic of Korea (South Korea), this
position paper indicates the stance and background information of South Korea,
providing historical context and perspective on the conflict of the Vietnam War.

Supported by the United States during the Korean War, South Korea adopted a
strong anti-communist stance. The involvement and historical background of
South Korea in the Vietnam War indicate that the provided information
indicates South Korea's participation was motivated by its stance to prevent the
spread of communism in Southeast Asia, aligning with the US to help anti-
communist South Vietnam end the conflict with communist North Vietnam. In
the combat of the war, South Korean troops were heavily involved, sending
over 300,000 of them to support South Vietnam and, at the request of the United
States, contributing significantly to the war effort. South Korea received
substantial economic and military aid from the US in return for its involvement
in the war.

South Korea proposes a consideration of the resolution of the Vietnam War that
prioritises diplomacy, reconstruction, and stability for all parties involved. First
and foremost, South Korea advocates for peace talks involving North and South
Vietnam, the United States, and other major international stakeholders. Aiming
to establish long-term peace. Furthermore, South Korea commits to providing
substantial economic and humanitarian aid to support post-war reconstruction
efforts, address humanitarian crises, and facilitate the return of refugees. South
Korea also strongly encourages demilitarisation, wanting to reduce the risk of
future conflicts. As for the future of the Vietnamese party, South Korea
indicates democratic governance, human rights protections, and policies for
maintaining peace and development.

All parties involved in the Vietnam War's settlement had requirements fulfilled,
and these proposals promote regional stability and security while being in line
with South Korea's interests and capabilities.
In summary, South Korea remains steadfast in its commitment to resolving the
Vietnam War through a collaborative and constructive approach. By advocating
for comprehensive peace negotiations, international oversight, economic and
humanitarian aid, demilitarisation, and democratic reforms, South Korea aims to
contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region. Our proposals reflect our
anti-communist stance, our alliance with the United States, and our dedication
to supporting the sovereignty and development of South Vietnam. We are open
to dialogue, negotiation, and cooperation with other delegates to achieve mutual
goals and ensure a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
