4 Materials and Durability

4.1 Concrete

Concrete shall be minimum of Grade C36/40.

Minimum cover shall be as follows:

- Precast Concrete: 50 mm
- In-situ Concrete: 50 mm
- Prestressed Concrete: 50 mm
- In contact with soil: 70 mm

Reinforcement Steel shall have a minimum steel grade f ymin = 460 N/mm2

4.2 Steel Tubular Piles

Steel tubular piles shall be minimum S355 to BS EN 10210 or BS EN 10219 or equivalent

4.3 Structural Steel

Structural steel shall be having a minimum grade S355 or equivalent.

- RHS section – BS EN 10210
- Open section – BS EN 10025

4.4 Corrosion Protection and Corrosion Allowance for Steel

Coating systems are to be provided to 2.0m below the mud line or to 3.0m below LAT, whichever is deeper,
to be designed for a minimum of 10 years. Cathodic protection is considered not to be required. A steel
thickness of 1mm of corrosion to the steel spud pile wall will be considered in the design based on EN
1993-5. No spud pile thickness reduction for pile below seabed as corrosion unlikely will happened.
