Response Template for Signature Assignment

Please use this as a guide for writing your Signature Assignment. You may write your response
in the second column (using complete sentences) and upload it as your submission.

Your response will be evaluated on the following criteria:

1. Use of complete sentences


2. Correct factual information
3. Correct use of musical terms
4. Thoughtful responses to opinion questions using specific examples
from the music.

Question Response (In Complete Sentences)

1. List the title and composer of each piece.

2.1. Choose one piece from the list and tell us


the following:
A. What was the genre of the piece?
(concerto, tone poem, symphony, dance
etc.)
B. What was the instrumentation? (full
orchestra, strings only, if a soloist list
the instrument played)
C. What was the style period (Middle
Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical,
Romantic, 20th c. and beyond) and who
may have been the original intended
audience? (nobles, church, general
public etc.). For your response, consider
the social or cultural use of the work.

2.2. Choose a different piece from the list and


tell us the following:
A. What was the genre of the piece?
(concerto, tone poem, symphony, dance
etc.)
B. What was the instrumentation? (full
orchestra, strings only, if a soloist list
the instrument played)
C. What was the style period (Middle
Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical,
Romantic, 20th c. and beyond) and who
may have been the original intended
audience? (nobles, church, general
public etc.). For your response, consider
the social or cultural use of the work.

3. Choose one piece from the list (not


discussed in Question 2) and explain how
it demonstrates its style period. In other
words, what about the music is
characteristic of its time? In your
response, please include at least three
specific examples. Features that you may
want to consider include instrumentation,
texture, dynamics, etc.

4. What was your favorite piece? Why?

5. What was your least-favorite piece? Why?
