Freight Cost

 CLC costs are typically cheaper but can be higher for larger loads due to higher local fees and full
container load options; FCL can be cheaper for shipments with 15 CBM volumes, as rates vary
by route. The price per CBM may not always be lower than LCL, but the overall cost can be less.

Speed

 LCL transit time is longer than FCL due to unloading, sorting, and deconsolidation, and if a
consignment is selected for inspection, the entire container is held.

Shipment Volume

 LCL is suitable for shipments with a minimum chargeable volume of 1 CBM, and is ideal for
shipments with a volume of less than 15 CBM.
 FCL agreement allows any shipment, but full containers are recommended for 15 CBM or more.

Shipment Weight

 The maximum weight per CBM is 1 ton or 1,000 kg, with chargeable weight based on gross
weight if the shipment exceeds the allowable load. LCL shipping is more economical for small
shipments weighing over 150kg
 FCL Container sizes have different maximum allowable weights, with some countries ruling on
the maximum load.

Local Charges

 LCL shipments are billed per CBM includes local charges for both outgoing and incoming parts;
FCL shipment are fixed amount and usually billed per container.

Security and Damages

 LCL has higher risk for damages since it is shared with other shipments; FLC has a lower risk for
damages since it has a direct route with a single consignee.

Trackability

 Same tracking method using the House Bill of Lading; however, FCL is much easier to follow
since its under one consignee.

Split Shipment

 LCL shipments can be split for different delivery locations, especially for distant addresses, as the
full container is sent to a warehouse for sorting, allowing for different port usage.
 Splitting a shipment under an FCL agreement can be economical, but it requires additional fees
such as warehousing, labeling, sorting, loading, unloading, and delivery. Consult your freight
forwarder on the best route to avoid additional costs.
Delivery Appointments

 LCL shipments may be easier to book due to their smaller size; FCL takes a longer time.

Customs Clearance and Customs Exam

 LCL and FCL shipment clearances are similar, but LCL requires a full container examination if a
single consignment flags. The cost of the custom examination, along with warehousing and port
fees, is shared among all consignees using the container.

LCL vs FLC - The primary considerations are the volume of the shipment, the route, the timeline, and the
cost.
