Monday

Introduction to the Circulatory System

Objectives:
1. Identify the components of the circulatory system
2. Draw and label the parts of the blood
3. Distinguish between red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets

Intro:
1. Students will then be given strips of paper to fold in half.
2. Students will be asked to write give one/get one on the paper
3. Students will be given time to write statements about the circulatory system
4. Students will then be allowed time to find partners and then write this persons statement on
their side of paper marked get one.
5. Students will continue until they have gotten one statement from each student in the class.

Development:
6. Students will then be placed into groups of four. Each group will arrange statements into
categories: function, component, structure etc
7. Students will be called on to share their statements; corrections will be made where necessary.
8. Students will then be given an explanation for the components of the circulatory system and
their function.
9. Students will then examine the blood, its function and the components
10. Students will observe the blood grouping system and how they are used for blood transfusion.
11. Students will complete the notes in their notebook.
12. Students will observe 3pictures depicting the blood vessels, from the picture, students will
compare the 3 blood vessels and their function.

Closure:
1. Students will complete a worksheet to summarize the functions of the circulatory system and
its components
