L. Norwood is a fresh NEW nursing research textbook which provides
an engaging and user-friendly introduction to this important subject area.
With valuable information for nursing students, nurses in clinical
practice, and nurses in leadership positions, Research Essentials:
Foundations for Evidence-Based Practicehelps nurses acquire essential
skills for today’s dynamic health-care environment.

Susan L. Norwood is a professor in the Department of Nursing at

Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She has been a nurse
educator for 23 years and also serves as the research consultant for
Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She earned her
Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gonzaga University, her
certificate as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner from Harbor-
UCLA Medical Center, her Master’s in Nursing from the University of
Washington, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pacific
Lutheran University. She has taught a wide variety of courses to both
undergraduate and graduate students, has published in a variety of
nursing journals, and has previously published graduate-level textbooks
on nursing research and nursing consultation. She lives in Spokane with
