PERSUASIVE SPEECH

Title: Play an Instrument


General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To change their perspective that playing instruments is a therapy.
Central Idea: To convince people that playing instruments is the best way to alter your mood,
one of the best medicines to fight stress and enhance your creativity that benefits your overall
life to become more productive.

Introduction
Attention getter

I 6 minutes is a very small period of time. In 6 minutes, you might be able to go for a little
stroll or check your email. In 6 minutes, you may even have a brief phone discussion with a
buddy. In fact, you will finish listening to my lecture within the next six minutes. But, in the
following six minutes, I vow to impart ideas that will shift your viewpoint and have a long-term
influence on your life.

II Every 60 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with a disease that could have
been prevented, what if that person was you?.. You may wonder what is the root of all disease
and also why people become less creative and productive when we get older.

III There are solutions to these problems, it is simple by learning to play an instrument.
That's right! Playing an instrument helps you to overcome this problem.

(Transition: I’ll begin to telling my audience that stress is the source of disease and issues that
when people gets old there become less productive and creative)
Body

1. (Statement that need for action) Stress can cause a disease that affects our overall
health, mood that affects our productivity and stay productive.

A. (Description of problem) Stress seems to worsen or increase the risk of many illnesses
like heart disease and depression.

1. Stress-out, type A personalities are more likely to develop high blood pressure
and cardiac issues due to increased heart rate, blood flow, cholesterol production, and
potential link to other disorders like smoking or obesity. Doctors warn that unexpected
emotional stress can lead to major cardiac disorders, including heart attacks. Chronic
cardiac issues should be managed by avoiding acute stress and learning to handle life's
challenges.(R.Morgan Griffin,2014)

2. Chronic stress, particularly job-related stress, increases the likelihood of


depression and anxiety, with those experiencing rigorous labor with little reward having a
80% higher risk of depression within a few years. (R.Morgan Griffin,2014)

B. Most adult people aren’t able to handle their stress level

1. Studies show that in 2018, 51% of adults who felt stressed reported feeling
depressed, and 61% reported feeling anxious.(mental health foundation,2015)

C. Most adult become less productive do their mood and and lack of creativity

1. Negative emotions, such as anxiety and sadness, can have a major influence on
cognitive function, creativity, problem-solving ability, and decision-making. Unresolved
unpleasant moods can cause a heightened attention on negative features, making work
appear tiresome and reducing productivity.(April Mayer,2023)

(Transition: I’m sure that you guys probably will be asking is there any other solution or ways for
us adults)

Satisfaction

II. (Present solution that satisfies need) Playing an Instrument actually can help you
overcome all of those things. It can alter your mood into a positive state as well as decrease
your hormone stress level and boost your creativity as an adult which end result makes you
more productive.

A. (Description of Solution) Start learning to play one instrument


. That music is therapy.
1. Suzanne Hanser at Berklee College of Music highlights the therapeutic
power of music, citing studies showing lower blood pressure, stress, anxiety, and
improved immune response.(Steve Flack,2016)

2. Playing music can boost your memory level as well as develop your
sense and timing and also it hones your pattern recognition skills. (Jalen
McClure,2022)

B. (Plan of action) Start playing one instrument that suits you.

1. You can start taking music lessons at a music center.

2. You can take online course or through Youtube.

(Transition: Now let’s see what happen when you start playing instrument and what the benefit
of it)

Visualization

III. (Visualize result) playing instruments will benefit you.

A. (Describe Expected Result of Action) Other than reduce stress level playing an
instrument also help you become more productive

1. Can increase memory capacity, refine your time management and give
you more discipline and organization skills.

2. It also boosts your team skill, because playing an instrument requires you
to work with others.

B. (Describe Consequences inaction) The problem is when humans get older the
creativity within them also decreases and that makes their life less productive and most
human beings are bound to stress that they are not capable of handling it.
Conclusion

I. (Brake Light) As you can see, playing instrument have lot of benefit than you ever
imagine

II (Summary) There is no age limit or obstacle that prevents you from playing instruments.
Other than that it can promote joy and you can enjoy your life journey with music.

III (Tie Back to the Audience) Imagine your life fill with joy and happiness and there is the
simplest way by doing it. By playing music, it is that simple.

IV (Call to Action) Let live your life and free your mind by start playing a music that suits you
that make you happy.
