SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

Learning Competency: EN8G-IVe-3: Use past and past perfect tenses in
journalistic writing

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
1. identify the use of Past and Past Perfect Tense of Verb in journalistic writing
2. revise the sentences using Past Perfect Tense of the verb
3. construct sentences using Past and Past Perfect Tenses of the verb, and
4. follow instructions carefully.

IV. PROCEDURE

A. DRILL
1. Spelling Time - Give 10 words for the day. Let the learners write the
correct spelling of each word.

B. MOTIVATION
1. Start the lesson through a game called “ We Survived” (The teacher
divides the class into four, provides instructions written on small
flags for each group. A volunteer will do the first task until five
members of the groups finished different tasks. At the end, the whole group
will shout “we survived” after completing all the tasks.)
2. Congratulate the winning team and give each group their reward based
on their rank.

C. LESSON PROPER
1. Ask the learners how they find the activity.
2. Recall the tasks they performed in the activity and show it on the
screen.
3. Introduce the lesson (past and past perfect tenses of verb)
4. Emphasize when to use past and the past participle of the verb in
journalistic writing.
5. Provide varied examples and exercises.

V. GENERALIZATION
1. On the screen are flashed pictures that show past and past perfect activities.
The learners will construct sentences using the picture and apply the lesson they
just learned.
2. We use the past tense to show an action that happened in the past. We use
past perfect tense to show that there is a continuity of action that is completed
before another action in the past.
3. Past perfect tense of verb is formed using the format below:
had + past participle of the verb

VI. APPLICATION:
In group, the learners will revise journalistic sentences by using the appropriate
tense of verb.

1. The governor ( postpone) the Aurora Day activities after the president (order)
its implementation due to corona virus.
2. SARS -Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (infect) more than 8,000 people
worldwide before corona virus (come).
3. The Department of Health said, the government (prepare) a lot for the possible
transmission of novel corona virus in the Philippines after the country (probe) 408
patients.

VII. VALUES INTEGRATION


Through cooperation, teamwork and carefully following instructions, you were
able to achieve your objective. The same logic applies in life. Sometimes, dealing with
people, listening to their counsels and following their instructions helps us
achieve our goals in life.

VIII. EVALUATION:
The teacher prepares an activity in a piece of paper. The instruction there is:
Revise the following sentences and use the appropriate form of verb to be used.

1. The town officials (map) out contingency plans before the vocano (erupt).
2. I (pay) the bill when he (arrive).
3. Larry (pass out) after we (perform) the experiment.
4. The girls (exercise) for three hours before they (take) a shower.
5. I (try) to sell my lot for six months before I (find) a buyer.

IX. ASSIGNMENT
The teacher will distribute the table of regular and irregular verbs where in the
learners will fill in the needed tenses.
