IBM Power System S824 delivers best of breed Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3
Payroll Batch Extra Large test kit performance

On April 28, 2014, IBM and Oracle announced another outstanding Oracle E-Business Suite
benchmark demonstrating leadership performance. The newly announced IBM Power® System
S824 server with IBM POWER8™ processors was used for this benchmark test. The goal for
this benchmark was to demonstrate the industry-leading per core performance of IBM’s latest
version of the POWER™ processor.

The Power S824 server with AIX® 7.1 TL07 was used to run the Extra Large Payroll (Batch)
benchmark workload for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3. The Power S824 server was equipped
with 2 x 3.525 GHz POWER8 12-core processor cards, but only one card (12-cores) was enabled
for the test. The Power S824 server hosted both the Oracle E-Business Suite Database and the
Application server instances on a single AIX image and ran Oracle Database 11g (11.2.0.3.0). A
single IBM Storwize™ V7000 disk array was used for storage.

The benchmark exercised the batch component of Oracle E-Business Suite applications for the
Extra-Large Payroll script (250,000 employees). The Power S824 server completed the test in
13.75 minutes (total time) and delivered the equivalent of 1,090,909 employee records processed
per hour. This works out to an impressive 90,909 employee records processed per hour per core
in the Power S824 server, a leadership result for this test category and 86% better than the closest
competitor’s employee records processed per hour per core result.
