Lưu ý: Nếu chủ ngữ là: HE, SHE, THEY… thì không đảo động từ lên trước.
EX1: By the window sat the woman = the woman sat by the window
EX2: Here comes the Minister now.
EX3: There stood the next king of England.
EX4: At the top of society are the aristocracy.
EX5: Beside the Town Hall stood the public library.
EX6: In this prison are housed some of the most dangerous criminals.
EX7: On the corner of the street sat a homeless man.
EX8: Running down the road was a young man with a woman's handbag under
his arm.
B. CÁC DẠNG ĐẢO NGỮ KHÁC
1) Đảo ngữ với so, neither, nor
EX1: 'I voted for Smith.’ → 'Did
you? So did I.’
EX2: 'I don't believe a word this government says.’ → ‘No,
neither do I.’
2) Đảo ngữ với after, as, than, so and such
EX1: I am very worried about bullying in the school, as are a lot of the parents.
EX2: The police in this area make more arrests than do officers in other parts of the
country.
EX3: So rare is burglary here that many people don't bother to lock their doors.
EX4: Such public interest was there in the story that it was on the front pages of the
newspapers.
3) Đảo ngữ với câu điều kiện
EX1: Were the Foreign Secretary to resign, it would cause serious problems for the
Prime Minister.
EX2: Should the Foreign Secretary resign, it would cause serious problems for the
Prime Minister.
EX3: Had I known about the crime problem, I would never have moved here.
