Course Description
This course provides future architects with core technical knowledge
and professional skills in construction management. Students will
gain proficiency in construction contracts, planning, scheduling,
safety, materials, equipment, quality, cost control, and project
administration. Additional topics cover architectural practice, human
resources, risk management, ethics, and legal responsibilities of the
architect’s role.
Through lectures, assignments, readings and projects, students will
learn to analyze and manage key phases of the construction
process. Skills developed include drafting and negotiating contracts,
developing detailed schedules and budgets, overseeing safe and
high-quality construction, contractors and running an architectural
firm.
Upon completion, students will have a comprehensive understanding
of construction management to contribute to projects and firms after
graduation.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course students will be able to
 Analyze key stages of the construction process and the
architect’s evolving role.
 Draft and modify standard construction contracts and
subcontracts.
 Read detailed construction schedules
 Implement safety procedures, quality control processes, and
cost control measures.
 Coordinate and oversee construction activities through
observation, documentation and construction.
 Manage human resources, materials procurement, and
equipment logistics for construction projects.
 Understand project delivery methods and collaborate with other
construction professionals.
 Identify and mitigate potential construction risks through
insurance, bonding, and preventative strategies.
 Recognize ethical and legal obligations of architects related to
construction services.

under extreme circumstances.

All discussion assignments must be completed by the assignment


due date and time. Late or missing discussion assignments will
affect the student’s grade.
