?? What is the proper Moorish American Moslem diet? ??
?? What is the proper Moorish American Moslem diet? ??
Islam Moors.
This letter was evidently written by Bro. E. Mealy El, first Grand Sheik and Chairman of the Moorish Science Temple of America and first
Supreme Grand Sheik of the first Supreme Grand Council of the Moorish Science Temple of America, appointed by Prophet Noble Drew Ali
If the letter is authentic, according to Bro. E. Mealy El the proper diet for Moorish American Moslems is pescatarianism. A pescatarian is
defined as one who abstains from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. One fact in favor of this diet is that Moorish
Americans would not have any concern consuming haram, or unlawful meat as described in the Holy Qur’an of Mecca.
“Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on
which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed
by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death;
that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter
it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the
division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety……” (5:3)
Moors in many parts of the USA simply don’t have access to halal or kosher meat, although meat produced by Christians who are also
“People of the Book” is also permissible according to the Holy Qur’an of Mecca…those ones who have produced good things.
“Today, I have permitted all for you all good things, and the food of the People of
the Book is permissible for you, and your food is permissible for them….” (5:5)
Therefore SGS E. Mealy El is tailoring a diet for Moorish American Moslems exclusively that does not contradict the Holy Qur’an of Mecca
but is strict in this regard. Bro. E. Mealy El specified Moors are only to consume fish with scales, clearly excluding the much-loved catfish as
well as eel. The Holy Qur’an of Mecca cites seafood as permissible.
“It is He Who has made the sea subject, that ye may eat thereof flesh that is fresh
and tender….” (16: 14)
It seems that particular Imams often decide which seafood is permissible or not in a particular ummah for various reasons. Bro. E. Mealy El’s
instruction is in common with Shia belief as well as Leviticus 11:9-12 in this regard. (“…as a Brother who loves Israel,…”).
“Whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them
shall ye eat. And all that have no fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all
that moves in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall
be an abomination unto you…ye shall not eat of their flesh…”
Finally, SGS E. Mealy El writes it is unlawful for Moorish American Moslems to consume “strong drinks”. The obvious question is, “Are all
alcoholic beverages considered ‘strong drinks’ or are liquors, to the exclusion of beers and wines, only being described as ‘strong drinks’?
Did we ever hear from the Grand Body on this issue as Moors were instructed to follow these instructions until hearing from said body…in
1929? According to the Holy Qur’an of Mecca wine qualifies as “strong drink”.
The Holy Qur’an of Mecca says that a positive effect of eschewing intoxicants and gambling is “…that ye may prosper”. I think Moors would
have to agree that a significant amount of finance would be saved if ones didn’t indulge in these unlawful deeds. Yet, until a particular
Moorish American Moslem has practically achieved the above ideals he/she is still to follow and be mindful of the Divine Instructions and
revelations found in our Moorish Holy Koran.
“Yea he must suffer trials and temptations manifold; but let him know that cherubim
and seraphim that rule the solar stars are his protectors and his guide and they will
lead to victory.” (Ch. 1)
“When man has conquered carnal things his garb of flesh will then have served its
purpose well and it will fall; and be no more.”(Ch. 1)
“Be moderate in the enjoyment, and it shall remain in thy possession; let thy joy be
founded on reason, and to its end shall sorrow be a stranger.” (42:11)
“The virtues are allotted to various stations. Seek not after impossibilities, nor
grieve that thou canst not possess them all.”(42:19)
What a beautiful code of living! What a realistic positive mental outlook! What a spiritual ideal!
Peace.
