Subject: A350 MSN 0538 Flight Number JAL516 accident - 02 Jan 2024
Airbus regrets to confirm that an Airbus A350 aircraft operated by Japan Airlines was
involved in an accident during flight JAL516 from Sapporo International airport (CTS/RJCC),
to Haneda International Airport (HND/RJTT) on 02 Jan 2024.
The A350 collided with a DHC-8 aircraft at landing in Haneda. The exact circumstances of
the event are still unknown.
Initial reports indicate there were 367 passengers and 12 crew members on-board the A350
aircraft; all on-board have reportedly safely evacuated the airplane with few injuries. Initial
reports also indicate there were 6 persons in the DHC-8, with 5 reported fatalities.
The aircraft, registration number JA13XJ, Manufacturer Serial Number 0538, was delivered
in November 2021.
It has been operated by Japan Airlines since delivery. It had logged around 4155 flight hours
and 3032 flight cycles as of today. It was powered by Rolls Royce TRENT-XWB engines.
Further updates will be provided as soon as consolidated information is available and Airbus
is authorised to release them.
